  1. I found my old Dark Colony CD and tried playing off it. Unfortunately it plays the music tracks constantly and I wholeheartedly agree with you that the game is better with just the atmospheric background noises. The tracks are not bad per se, but there are only four of them and they're very short so looping will quickly get irritating. I also feel that only one of them is appropriate for the setting. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any way to control the volume on modern machines which further hinders the experience. The Council Wars (which I don't yet have) adds an additional four music tracks but they are even more peculiar. One track in particular feels like it would be a better fit for Donkey Kong…
EDIT: I know you cannot discuss how you set up your game but could you tell me how you ran the game without the music? It really detracts from the experience…
2nd Edit: I have discovered that if you start a skirmish map and then leave and start the single player campaign, the music will not start. Oddly enough, they disabled the music for skirmish and multiplayer maps. Sorry for the long post but I felt future viewers may benefit.

  2. Wow I remember this game! Never could remember it's name.. though I do remember all the text for mission briefings being read from .txt files, so it was easy to add an insult to any friends in there

  3. I remember playing this as a kid. These old games have such interesting design. I want more games with today graphics with interesting designs like this. We can add mines to take out the infantry, it will blow a few times before dying. Meaning we can heal the mines so we don't lose them.
