Mars Colonists will be the richest humans alive!

The FAA has Starship on their launch calendar! The biggest step towards colonizing Mars is perhaps a week away. But the question remains: why are humans going to make the choice to spend the rest of their lives on such a hostile planet? Well, for the main reasons that humans do anything.
Money.

  1. Let's not forget the space elevator. We have materials TODAY strong enough to build a Martian space elevator. One could build a lovely geosynchronous (or aressynchronous I suppose is the right term) space tether. The biggest technical barrier would probably be the need to avoid colliding with Phobos. Once Mars is equipped with a few space elevators, it will become the center of Solar society. It's sad to think we might ever have interplanetary war but I suppose if Earth developed a workable fusion drive or space elevators they might one day find it economically viable to fight, but this is very hard to conceive of once the economics of it is considered.

  2. given the fact that i am a 69 yrs. old I would gladly do it , because it is the greatest challenge in life and i truly know we will evolve our way of life on the red planet the learning ability is beyond scope and how we can apply this knowledge to earth us a giving only to the limits of our imaginations and creative skills lets give it a shot lets go to MARS .

  3. Well, I would say that at some our our ages, traveling to Mars would not be a good idea.
We might live awhile longer, but are we physically fit enough?
    What training would we need?

Life would definitely not be easy, and who will be set up as the governing body?
Would we be civilians, or some sort of military force?

Age and physical fitness, or the lack thereof, would mostly put many of us out of the running.
I like the idea, but I would probably have many difficulties there, sadly.

I dream of others getting there and making a name for themselves, but we all know that an industry
like mining takes some time to set up. "New" Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will Mars.

Would love the chance, but my health and fitness level wouldn't make the grade.
Would very much love to be monitoring and watching this new future unfold ! 🙂

  4. One thing I almost left out:

Would there be any benefit of having some sort of depot or presence on either (or both) of Mars' two moons?

No atmosphere, but it would give us even more options for growth, or a relatively quick secondary mining location. 🙂

Really enjoying your content, Angry ! Kudos, and SO looking forward to SpaceX launch!

  5. About the proposed interplanetary conflict. It can be very easy to intercept a ship with a missile but the same applies for the missile so the transport ships should have escorts to destroy missiles, but it is still way easier for mars to defend than it is for earth to attack. And the asteroid attack could also be easily intercepted by redirectors and if it is defended an attack to remove the guarding forces would happen. And applying this it would mean (in my head at least) that a war like that would probably be a stalemate. Besides humanity would likely stay together in the first place.

  6. Martians wiping out Earthlings??? how did you make that leap again?? ….. you are very angry apparently 😆
But a Martian colony is doomed ; it will have the seeds of it's own destruction with them – humans.

  7. Okay, one more question: Wasn't there some sort of "space treaty" that "forbid" the mining of resources for sale, or exploitation or something? Was what I read a few years back about this, or my faded memory, correct?

I really hope that we can get beyond our propensity for war, and learn to cooperate in space, and improve the lives of those who are still on Earth.

Let's all continue to hope that humanity learns fast, and finds a way to stay committed to learning more, as we become an increasingly space-faring society. Let's all hope that space becomes more and more accessible, not just for the very rich.

I hope so see more progress in my lifetime, as a boomer with dreams of more space involvement. 🙂

  8. I work in construction and would love to do that in a low gravity environment. The structures that would be possible boggle the mind. Sign me up (can my wife come? She makes killer cookies).
