Marion County Sheriff’s Office releases video of Deputy Durm’s death



For the first time, video of the deadly attack on Marion County sheriff’s deputy John Durm has been released. The deputy was killed during an escape attempt in July. The surveillance videos released today provided a detailed timeline of the events that led up to the death of deputy Durm at the criminal justice campus.

  2. Why weren't they two officers with this felon? Why didn't his training teach never to never turn his back on a prisoner. Sad a man had to lose his life even sadder a killer on the loose.

  3. While unfortunate, this lays on the deputy. He opened the door of the transport van and didn’t pay attention to the fact that the inmate walked around behind him. Had there been a second deputy, that most likely would have been stopped. But nonetheless, when you are handling an inmate, it’s of the utmost importance to remain vigilant and aware. This deputy failed to do so and unfortunately cost him his life. Had he kept the inmate in his line of sight and not behind him, this tragedy could have been prevented.
