Marcha Real [Anthem of Spain]

The Marcha Real (“Royal March”) is the national anthem of Spain. It was composed by Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros (ca. 1730-1810), and first published in 1761, originally named La Marcha Granadera (“March of the Grenadiers”). The Marcha Real is one of the few national anthems in the world with no offical lyrics.
Perfomed by the Symfonický Orchester Slovenského Rozhlasu (Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra), led by Peter Breiner.
The accompanying painting depicts the Battle of San Marcial, fought in 1813 during the Spanish War of Independence, in which the Spanish army defeated the French. It was made by the military artist Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau (b. 1964).
