13:00 – Um… has this writer never worked a job? Or maybe other countries do it different?
Guess I can only really speak for Canada.
A business that fires an employee, must pay severance.
A business that lays off an employee, must bring the employee back within 3 months (or special exception time), otherwise pay them severance as if fired.
The amount of severance depends on how long the employee has been employed there.
The business must also give the employee notice of termination, or pay additional severance to cover the amount of notice they are supposed to be given. (The longer someone is employed, the more notice they need to be given… maxing out at 8 weeks.)
So, a business that wants to get rid of somebody has three options:
1) Find valid cause to fire them, so they don't need to pay severance.
2) Fire them and pay severance.
3) Convince them to quit.
I imagine most countries are the same… otherwise, people would find jobs, work the minimum… and then quit to get severance. Then find another job, qualify for severance, and quit to get it. There would be no incentive to stick around at a job, since you would make more money quitting.
12:42 – His desk is missing, and his manager verbally berates him.
12:55 – He quits, but if he was able to record the events and the removal of his desk… he could file grievance, saying that his manger was attempting to make him quit.
13:01 – The manager accepts his verbal request to quit. However, then says the company will pay severance… which means reporting his departure as being fired, without cause.
13:09 – Haruhiro proves he doesn't know what he is saying (if he was in Canada), by saying he expects to get severance… for quitting.
As an employee, getting fired without cause is good… because you get severance, and it isn't by your own fault, so doesn't damage your resume.
13:15 – Manager gives him more he can use for filing a grievance with the company.
Eh, maybe that is how it works in Japan… since they have 'for life' employment. So maybe they can't fire a person without cause, and therefore people are unlikely to quit. Thus, they would have severance for people giving up guaranteed employment. And companies would be happy to pay it instead of carrying a dead weight for decades.
