A man in Oklahoma City was caught on bodycam moments after killing a teenager and once he spotted police, he started shooting at them. Jerry Yang got in a dramatic shootout with police inside the home where the teen lived; the child’s mother had a protective order out against Yang. Law&Crime’s Chris Stewart walks us through the bodycam.

Anyone that's naive enough to believe that a piece of paper is going to save your life is out of control. A piece of paper does not stop someone stops or feelings. You always have to protect yourself at all times.

Racially motivated crime.
So many times it seems these protective orders don't "work" to prevent assaults, violence and murder. The perpetrator fundamentally does not respect boundaries. What would you suggest for extra proactive protective steps/actions to put in place? ongoing communication with all police jurisdictions, agencies , neighbors, self protection, first get away to a safe place/safe house, make sure you're not being tracked with gps or followed, relocating to a safe unknown location with other safe people, alarms, sensors, cameras, locks, dogs, defense? Seems overwhelming! Is there a DV Shelter hotline?

So much like my ex.
I tried getting help from the police. I was told I brought on the abuse myself and deserved it.
I left and moved an hour away half way through ny first semester in college. He followed me and proceeded to enroll in the same classes I was taking.
Go to the college admin and ask for help and something to be done.
Cant because we cant deny HIM his free education given by the military.
I move away again. He followed. Again. Cant do anythjing about it because there is no proof.
He meets a new woman. And suddenly im the problem all these years and im the enemy.

Yes its hard to leave and its hard to manage sometimes when starting off fresh again. It can be done and is worth the challenges that come with being free finally from an abuser. Dont give up because people didnt believe you or couldnt be bothered to help you when you need it.
That piece of paper is a legal order entered by a judge and enforceable by law. Any lawyer calling a Court Order "a piece of paper" has no regard for the law and judges and should be questioned.

Restraining or Protective Orders are nothing but a piece of paper. If a person wants to do harm they will do harm and absolutely noone can stop them and now in this situation, a teenager is killed. So tragic….❤😢

I had a restraining order against my abusive ex husband, he broke into my apartment and cleaned it and left. I called the police, and the officer replied, scarry guy clening the house, seems like a hardened criminal. But the officers knew him and that he was violent. What my ex showed was he can come in and stay a while at any time. And violated the order, the cops did nothing! Not even a report. Leaving me and my child in danger.
So glad the officers are ok. Praying for the traumatized children.
