A twin-engine cargo plane made an emergency landing Friday at an airport in North Carolina after reported landing-gear issues, and a search for a person who jumped from it before the landing ended with the recovery of a body, Wake County officials said.
Darshan Patel, the Operations Manager for Wake County Emergency Management Wake EMS said in a 7:15 p.m. briefing that a body matching the description of the missing plane passenger was recovered.
The man identified as Charles Hew Crooks, 23, was found in Fuquay-Varina.
According to Patel, “There was no indication” that Crooks had a parachute.

I think he jumped because he was less afraid of falling to certain death than to risk burning to either death or immense disfigurement. Though tbh, the latter was more survivable given the liklihood of rescue even if the plane burned or crashed.
Panic is panic. I have heard that falling to death from that height (by the survivor of a failed parachute) is actually very peaceful once adrenaline burns out and acceptance kicks in.

Obviously there is a problem with the reporting here. Very turbulent in the back of an airplane where you're leaning over partially open cargo door out of an aircraft to get a visual of a problem you otherwise wouldn't be able to see. I've worked line service for years and have serviced these aircraft. It is very sad this accidentaly happened to a good man . Why on earth would a well trained pilot jump? And what good is it to impune a good name before an investigation?
Close enough doesn't count with flying/landing/takeoff. Might have fallen doubtful he jumped. If he's a pilot he deff knew he would be ok with the state of the plane making an emergency landing with gear issues

Imagine trying to help a situation, end up dying, and then the news globaly make a mockery and act like you were some dumbass that chose death over a bumpy landing. lol
I was taught that the procedure for one gear up landing in a small plane was to do a total gear up landing and cut the engines. Looks like this guy did it right with one gear.
Oh my God he jumped out of it he would have been completely unscathed that's horrible he he wouldn't have been even scratched

Yeah you would never just jump out of an airplane unless it's on fire and you're plummeting towards the Earth… if you're maintaining flight he probably fell out because he was checking something in the back with the door open and he got sucked out.

All of you commenters saying he accidentally fell out, do some current research in it. It now looks probable it was suicide. Poor guy might have lost it knowing the very hard landing he had just made might be the end of his flight career.
