The man then ended up being hit by the train himself and was taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries, while the woman was left unharmed but ‘shaken up’.
British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to the Hammersmith and City Line at 1.26pm this afternoon, following reports of a ‘serious incident’.
The force said a man is believed to have attempted to pull a woman onto the train tracks, before being hit by a train himself.
It added that, although the investigation is at an early stage, the pair are not thought to have known each other.
While the woman was left unharmed, the man was taken to hospital for head injuries and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The BTP spokesperson said:
‘The woman was thankfully unharmed, but understandably shaken up.
‘While enquiries into the incident are at an early stage, it’s not believed the two were known to each other.
‘The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and taken to hospital for treatment to head injuries.’
Following the incident, there have been severe delays on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City line services following the incident. Tickets are being accepted on London buses.
Police are urging any witnesses who have not yet spoken to them to text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 266 of 29/08/22.
