  1. When I was a young, newly divorced mother with three children to support, I knew I couldn't raise the children waiting on a child support check. I did what I needed to do. Back in the early eighties, jobs for women were limited to clerical, service or housekeeping. I took a program of course work in CATV installation and then went in to electrical. The pay and opportunity for growth was promising! I was an apprentice and took the program classes in the evening. I found employment with an electrical contractor who was extremely supportive.
The problems arose on the job sites. A few examples were, one young man, on the general contractor team, insisted he 'help' me because he had been raised to believe women were helpless damsels in distress, I guess. He interfered with my job, taking my tools right out of my hands, so I had to tell my journeyman. After that, the guy went out of his way to come around and call me derogatory names. Another guy, the site superintendent, was constantly around me, holding my ladder or whatever he could find to do that 'involved' me. He obviously didn't do that for the guys!
I received a lot of jabs and snide comments, which I fully expected. But, the worst part was that just my mere presence was interruptive to the work at hand. As such, my work was closely scrutinized. As much as I felt the guys were the issue, my presence was causing problems these employers had never had to encounter before. I was a pioneer, yet, I felt I couldn't earn the same living as men because of those men. One guy on my own team was talking about his children all having the flu. I asked him who stayed home when the children were sick. He looked at me in disbelief and said his wife did. I sighed and said that I wished I had a wife, so, I could keep working. He was speechless. He had never thought about that before then.
I resigned and went back to CATV work until a disability stopped it all. I was still able to buy a home and raise the children. I'm 'retired' now, but, I am grateful for the experience. It helped me in many areas of my life.

  2. another man bashing acting bullshit video. The biggest relationships of domestic abuse–lesbian–more men are psychologically abused in relationships than females–however the feminist movement and how society views men will not admit to this–and 34% of marriages wife mentally and physically abusing the husband–you just dont hear about it. Lets do videos on that shall we? the problem is females deny and have no accountability
