  1. Glad you are seeing all this. its also stuff i have not seen, so i am glad i am seeing it too 🙂

some points that may have been made elsewhere….
The early days… they were doing their own choreography and makeup, etc.
Moonbyul did not get the credit for the Rap in Mr Ambiguous until she used it in another song during the 2nd world competition in 2022.
There is another pre debut mv called peppermint chocolate…. i do see you have it on the list for later.
They did Mr Ambiguous on the its live channel with live band in 2021… you can get a comparison from the versions in 2014.

  2. Not a lot of groups sing live for music shows anymore. It ping pongs in and out of fashion. Early 2nd gen everyone sang live, late 2nd gen/early 3rd there was a lot of lipsyncing. So much so that one music show (dont remember which one) banned lipsyncing for a while 😂. Then largely thanks to Mamamoo and other vocal heavy groups like Btob people stared singing live more often and now we're in a lipsyncing phase atm since 4th gen.
In 4th gen dance performance and the illusion of sounding 'perfect' onstage became more important than before. I actually feel like the standards for everything in kpop has gone up so high that you'd actually have to be a superhero to achieve them. No wonder no one sings live anymore.

You can hear every breath here, every jump in their voices with the choreo, Solar starts Mr. Ambiguous off a bit pitchy, and it's wonderful! I miss that raw unedited vocal sound. There are some 4th gen groups who I know are AMAZING singers yet we rarely get to hear them sing live 🥲

BTW they did another pre-debut track that is not on every version of the album called Peppermint Chocolate. It also has an MV, I'd hate for you to miss out 😇

I love how the fanchant for PM is:
    Mamamoo: 'hey piano man!'
    Moomoos: 'yes?'
As if 90% of the fandom isn't women 🤣

Are you going to do the dance practices?

  3. Thanks for your reactions. Mamamoo only lipsync 1-2 times in their 9 years career, not becoz they don't want to but due to technique problems. Mamamoo songs are best enjoyed with LIVE STAGES & A LIVE BAND and audience.
I would like to recommend their piano man dance practice in their official yt channel as there is eng sub, you will find how much fun they are having.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaqUvi4KpWk
BTW, if you would like to check how much fun they are together , watch MMMTV , which is the behind the scene of every mvs/ stages/performance/events/concerts etc. it is so fun to watch their interactions.

  4. i can count on one hand the number of times that mamamoo has tried to lipsync for live performances- and they all went very poorly haha- the girls are basically incapable of syncing themselves to the music, it's kind of funny- moonbyul covered her whole mouth so you couldn't see that she wasn't in time, cameramen have gotten confused because hwasa was lipsyncing what should have been wheein's part- a whole mess
the don't be happy mv really is a masterpiece
also, i don't know if it's coming up in a future video, so i'm sorry if i'm being redundant but there's also a mv for peppermint chocolate
so for the outfits in the baton touch video- solar was born on the 21st of february- moonbyul on the 22nd of december- wheein on the 17th of april…. and i have no idea why hwasa is wearing 0. maybe because she's the maknae? but she was born on the 23rd of July
they're some of the best vocal performers of kpop, hands down

  5. As far as I know they chose numbers that are important to them. Moonbyul 22 for her birthday 22.12.1992, Solar 21 the age she started pursuing music, Wheein 17 the age she was when her grandma who raised her passed away and Hwasa 0 a symbolic meaning for going back to the beginning.

If the suitish clothes are already enough for you to react like that, I can't wait for Decalcomanie era and every other time they wore real full suits.

  7. Mamamoo come from a very small company (RBW) where they do not have fund like those big company (YG, JYP or SM), they use to promote and perform at school / university festival where in 1 day, they will go to 3 – 4 events, attend all the variety show if have chance. For their first stage, they only have 3 supporter who is byul’ sisters and wheein’s friend. They need to prepare their own makeup, do their own style and choreography. They are not famous like blackpink internationally because their company did not promote them well. Is their moomoo (fan club name) who always do the back end to promote them. So, we are happy that now, they are more recognise internationally. Their music is widely genre, not like some group being control by their company. They do compose and write their own song. So, for this new song DangDang is written by solar, byul and hwasa (and by the way, Hwasa had changed her contract with PNation for solo activities, like wheein with THE L1VE). Mamamoo really appreciate their fans cause they have a few song written by Solar for their fans, you can listen to I Love Too (https://youtu.be/AGjvMOqxeR4), Star Wind Flower Sun https://youtu.be/kLeBQWw11yw), I Am Your Fan (https://youtu.be/2IqyqC5-S3k) and Wheein’s Springtime (https://youtu.be/vgQSKH365Xs), Letters Filled with Light (https://youtu.be/MjzIU7SUNtI). Like the MooYT said, if you are a moomoo, it is impossible that you did not check out the immortal song. This is the variety show they participate in the early stage where a bunch of soloist and group will sing the oldies song and voted for their vocal and performances. They even win a few times for this (https://mamamoo.fandom.com/wiki/Immortal_Songs_2), and definitely need to check it out. And for your info, their concert is a definitely need to watch concert, their stamina, vocal, performances and entertainment that they provide is another level (their normal concert last for 3hrs and 4Season concert is for almost 4hrs), worth every penny. Mamamoo have 300+ song and you will have a very long journey to discover them, they have OST song, advertisement song, cover song, solo song and even their behind scene video (definitely to check out MMMTV Eng sub-Playlist by WHOLO). Their advertisement song is a bob too (Girl Crush for game – https://youtu.be/wrAwKMEEHXU, Woo hoo – for LG – https://youtu.be/_eCJOj4NLlg, Gleam for spectacles – https://youtu.be/uIAScvNDQpI) and a lot more. They always do funny and entertainment thing for their fans, they even host BBQ event with fans (part 1 – https://youtu.be/A1yVtsjsrPU and part 2 – https://youtu.be/ZyaAkUXWt0o and thing fan request during their fan meet. They also do funny thing at stage after winning music show, the Teletubbies is for music show and for the Pokémon song is their online show (https://youtu.be/OWMrnQngSeM). They even write song to diss each other (Taller than you- https://youtu.be/I02F1lvhguw, remember to on the sub) and sleep in my car (https://youtu.be/810fHgXL1II). The funny song Aze Gag (https://youtu.be/6CmY-LTd_qs), the cute song Waggy (https://youtu.be/aaHiwHww4ho). And my fav, I Miss You from Queendom as Byul change the lyrics for fan (https://youtu.be/IjEue6SqJjI). They even do a tipsy night for fan after winning in music show, the video for tipsy 1 (https://youtu.be/B-mzAkb8Ahs), 2 (https://youtu.be/1T9sij2J14s) and 3 (https://youtu.be/a5ceceVmqnc). The most recently funny video is where they do a karaoke at music bank (Part 1 – https://youtu.be/Gt5F9jHpGtE and Part 2 – https://youtu.be/YrtQ2LxAHts) and idol human theater (https://youtu.be/htB5DXc8WCc). The sub unit start when they still together, mamamoo+ was called yongkongbyulkong (consist of solar and byul the unnies team), they cover song “promise you” (https://youtu.be/APaV5_Pc4M8) and then after have mamamoo+ with their first song call “Better” and then with Single Album called “Act 1, Scene 1” and recently with the comeback mini album “Two Rabbits”. Before that, they already have sub-unit called the Angel Line (consist of Solar and Wheein) with their song called “Angel” (https://youtu.be/JvYcoafZzjI) (they voice is angel to me) and Rapper Line (consist of byul and hwasa) for their song called Dab Dab (https://youtu.be/BoFcdgdRyHo). They also have name for other sub-unit but no in sing, just for fun such as Lemak line (which mean Leader and Makne, for Solar and Hwasa) and Cooking Line (Chwisa Rain – byul and wheein) cause Byul's nickname is "rice grain" due to her face shape, and Whee In's male character in "Um Oh Ah Yeh" is called "Koo Koo" which sounds like the Korean rice cooker Cuckoo. There is another sub unit name call Loser Crew (consist of byul, wheein and hwasa) where they always mess and play around each other while solar busy with something else or when they keep bullying solar in a fun way, the most epic video of them (https://youtu.be/zh1R71klLrA). Definitely check out the solo performance in F/W season concert, Solar (https://youtu.be/krq8BUJ4xpU), Byul (https://youtu.be/G–mf_V-20U), wheein (https://youtu.be/9IbM1CZR12U) and hwasa (https://youtu.be/KSHA5Y7GtWw). The most sincere, amazing talented girl group and well known for their strong live vocals, harmonies and powerful stage presence. Their B Side song is a bob also, for their earlier debut, their song is more jazzy type and they do try out a lot of different genres. They work really hard to get to these stages and it is not easy. That’s why Mamamoo fans have a slogan for them “Never Letting Go” and “BeLisMamoo” mean Believe and Listen to Mamamoo. I have not gotten to their solo part yet.

  8. Singing live happens these days as a kind of gimmick…but I will say that there are some rookies and youngish groups who sound great live. CSR, ADYA, and Fifty Fifty for rookies and Purple Kiss & NMIXX for youngish groups are all great at live singing. In 2014, the titans of live singing were just debuting: Mamamoo, Red Velvet, and Minx/Dreamcatcher(their 9th anniversary was earlier this week!). At that time live singing wasn't as important and honestly men were dominating as singers in K-Pop back then. 🤷🏾‍♀️ K-Pop history is twisty turny.

  9. I'm so soooooooooooo glad you picked that specific perf for Piano Man.

It's one of my most favorite perfs of Piano Man because at the end, they gave a shoutout to Apink, another girl group promoting at the same time. The ment at the end, they said "Apink sunbaenim (senior), please have a collab with us!" and throughout this performance they kept inserting the famous choreo from <LUV>, the song Apink was promoting at that time.

During one of Apink's encore stages in The Show, 3 members were not present and so they asked Mamamoo to join them. This was where "MamaPink" was coined by Namjoo (an Apink member), a combination of the groups' names which was used by the fans whenever both groups have interactions with each other.

Apink and Mamamoo ended up becoming friends, especially Solar and Chorong (Apink's leader) since both of them have the same age.

    In particular,
    – Solar is friends with most Apink members (Chorong, Bomi, Eunji) and Naeun (ex-member).
    – Moonbyul is friends with Chorong (thru Solar), Bomi (thru Chorong), and Eunji (they've met in several occasions, most recently when Eunji was a judge/panel in Second World where Moonbyul participated)
    – Wheein si friends with Eunji and Namjoo (same aged friend)

Sorry for the babbling! It's just that I ult both groups and it's a wonderful thing that my ults are friends as well.

  10. LOL, Solar's habit of singing the whole song started as soon as they debuted. You can see her singing along during the wide shots. It's why they had a hard time swapping to head mics, b/c all they could hear was SOLAR SINGING.
