📒 By the way, if you’re into Filofaxes I’m planning to sell quite a few thought the year, on eBay.
My auctions start at one penny, and fixed price items are reduced by 5 percent each week until sold. Keep an eye on them, and jump in when the price is right for you.

  1. For decades Parker hasn't been an independent company. They used to be part of Gillette, since the early 2000s they part of a huge US conglomerate called Newell Brands.
The latter also owns other stationary / pen companies like Waterman, Paper Mate, Rotring, Sharpie and Dymo.
Parker were an American brand, the British production stopped longtime ago.
The headquarters of Parker moved to Nantes in France. Which is maybe why they are a bit late regarding the Royal Family developments.😂
Waterman became a French company in the 50s and were part of BIC before being sold to Gillette in the 80s. Just like the other Gillette pen brands they are now part of Newell Brands.
German Rotring has had a similar story, though they just became a brand, apparently without their own headquarters and are no longer German but somewhat managed as part of Newell's Asian brands.

  2. Bic Mini with a pencil would be great, i fully agree.
I tried switching the pencil but it doesn't work. The normal BIC 4 are interchangeable, but the pencil needs a double push (first switch to the pencil then pushing out the lead). This needed a new "upper" of the pen, which is usually white with BIC 4. It looks similar but is a liitle bit wider than the normal BIC 4 including the Mini.
Unfortunately therefore you can't srew a BIC 3+1 (pencil) upper on a BIC 4 Mini. I haven't tried to hack a 4 upper with 3+1 mechanics, this looked too complicated to me.
Additional the pencil shaft would need to be shortened.
However I i succeeded hacking other BIC 4 refills for the Mini. Just cut them to the right length, deal with the excess ink as you need a bit of empty end to push it onto the pin of the upper.
The uppers of BIC 4 and BIC 4 mini are identical. Only the lower is shorter and therefore the refills.
I bought a BIC 4 Neon. Got the neon refill, cut it shorterand emptied a little bit of the ink (that takes the longest time). For cosmetical purposes I also switched the pusher so that it is easy to find the neon when using it with the Mini.
I also did the same with BIC 4 "fine" refill. Bought an orange BIC 4 which is housing the finer refills. Took out the black one and hacked it for the Mini . No need to change the pusher, black is black.
I wouldn't call the BIC 4 "disposable" even though most customers will use them in this way. You can buy refills. Changing them is easy.
