The concert will include music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, and Béla Bartók, as well as original music written by our young musicians and more, performed alongside musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Rebecca Miller.

Young musicians on woodwind, brass and percussion began their LSO East London Academy journey at the height of the pandemic, working together online, in small socially distant groups, through to high-profile performances at LSO St Luke’s and Trafalgar Square as part of BMW Classics in June 2022, where they were joined by the newest intake of young string players. These inspiring young musicians have shown their commitment, creativity and resilience across such changing environment, rising to every challenge.

Across the term, the full LSO East London Academy have taken part in high-level coaching sessions, including masterclasses, rehearsals, recording sessions, workshops to devise their own music, and attendance at LSO rehearsals and concerts, stretching their skills both personally and musically as individual musicians and as orchestral players.

ABOUT THE LSO EAST LONDON ACADEMY

The LSO East London Academy is a free, high-level instrumental coaching programme for young musicians from east London, particularly encouraging young musicians from backgrounds currently under-represented in professional orchestras, and those that face barriers to high-level training.

The LSO East London Academy is run as part of LSO On Track – the partnership between the London Symphony Orchestra and the local Music Services in ten East London boroughs, as part of the Music Education Hub: Bexley, Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

The LSO East London Academy is made possible through the generous support of the Henocq Law Trust, Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation, The Radcliffe Trust and Wavendon Foundation.
