👉 Storyline: “The Black Arrow, 1948”
When young British aristocrat Sir Richard Shelton returns from the War of the Roses, he discovers his father dead and his alleged killer, Sir John Sedley, living in the forest with a group of renegade rebels like Robin Hood. Sir Daniel Brackley, Shelton’s uncle and his father’s evil and vicious half-brother, lives on Shelton’s father’s estates and has brought back the harsh corporal punishment that his father had outlawed for the peasants. The murder of a Brackley-aligned yeoman with a black arrow raises Shelton’s suspicions. The Black Arrow’s death list also includes other Brackley henchmen, such as Shelton’s old tutor and Master-at-Arms, who had knowledge to Sedley’s alleged murder of his father. The fact that Shelton shares his uncle’s intention to wed Sedley’s lovely daughter adds to Shelton’s developing hostility toward Brackley.

Edward Small made a deal with Columbia in 1947 to produce two movies: D’Artagnan, the Kingmaker, which was adapted from one of the Three Musketeers’ sequels, and The Black Arrow. Small created many additional swashbucklers for Columbia, but only the former was produced.

Isn’t it interesting how the more things change, the more they stay the same? What was true centuries ago is still true today. While some refuse to blemish their own integrity, others are carried away by their own greed. This was a great movie. I love tales of knights, castles and chivalry. Whether they are fictional or not, they always seem to enshrine some moral principle.

Good movie. Better then the book I think. Thanx!
