The last message from the refining plant, Archimedes, was over 2 weeks ago. The plant’s chief technician had asked for more time. The workers were due to be lifted out because of an incoming storm of a size never seen before. Minutes after the message was received all audio and visual contact was lost.
As the recovery ship entered the planet’s atmosphere, a scene of utter devastation lay before them. Deadly acid rain had stripped the surface causing gullies of toxic water to scar the land. Eventually Archimedes came into view. A once gleaming white hive of innovation and technology, was now a rusted husk of decay. Avoiding puddles of diluted acid the crew made their way to the entrance of the plant. The inside of the facility was a ghost ship. An eerie wind whistled through the abandoned corridors. No human, alive or otherwise, could be detected. The creaks and groans of metal fatigue were becoming louder and more frequent, the crew’s safety was now at risk. With no sign of life inside, the crew began to search the surrounding area. Maybe some had found refuge elsewhere. Maybe help had come before them. The search continued across a desolate, alien landscape. A search on the wings of hope.
