LOST Explained – The Theory of Everything: Part Two (Mother, Jacob, Man in Black & The Egyptians)

#LOSTExplained #LOST #LOSTtvshow #WeHaveToGoBack

This channel’s definitive explanation of the mysteries and mythology from the seminal TV series LOST (2004). History is always repeating itself on the show, which is why Part Two dives into the beginning of “history” itself and explores the ancient past of The Island. We shall uncover the mythology that was heavily alluded to within the series but mostly went unseen, and we will unpack all of the clues that tell us who (or what) “Mother” was and what exactly happened to the Egyptians. More crucially, we shall explain what the deal is with that cork at the heart of The Island, and how Jacob and the Man in Black function as a “battery” with their respective powers.

  1. Great video. Do u plan on covering the LOST videogame at some point? I have very vague memories of playing at the time but I can't remember how good it was exactly. All I remember is that those sections where u have to hide from the Smoke Monster were an absolute nightmare

  2. So, around the 42 mark you say that Jacob acted out like a man-child, this causing him to throw his brother down into the source and creating a smoke monster. Earlier when discussing Mother, she was both a protector and a smoke monster. You said the island needed both. Did it still need both once Mother was dead and Jacob was the protector? If so, perhaps the source actively participated in getting Jacob to do that, commit that act, and create a smoke monster. Also, once the source had a cork in it, no smoke monster can be created, so does that mean from that point on the source didn't think there needed to be one? There would not have been one during Hurley's time as protector either.

  3. Question: What exactly does the man in black think will happen once he leaves the island? When he tells our various heroes that all he wants to do is leave, it does feel like he is not telling the entire truth. Does he really just want to go have a beer in a New York bar, or does he want to destroy the world of men? Does he expect to retain his smoke form in the world? I believe that Jack thinks he will retain smoke-form in the world because when asked about it he says that if Locke leaves its "Game Over". But the man in black knowing what he knows that he is tethered to the light, why is he not afraid that one he leaves some random people will reach the island and ruin the light – therefore destroying him at any moment? Does he no longer believe he is bound to the light or does he simply not care anymore?

  4. Wonderful narration and analogies. Everything is so layered. Music on point. Fantastic All round

However, I personally believe jack became the protector. It makes sense how it took so long for him to remember in season 6. The sideways Jack was not the stubourn Jack we come to love. He was seemingly calm n at peace, kinda like a Jacob. He lived a whole another life as something else n interacted with other groups. BUT The most important time, was the time u spent with these people! Just my opinion, there has to of been more than one smokey in existence

    Stay lost! Merry Xmas

  5. Is Jacob really the good one and his brother the bad guy? Jacob is luring people to the island, he is responsible for all the suffering and he is lying about it or deceiving. If the brother leaving the island would mean, that all existence would end, then also all suffering would end. It's a bit like in Donnie Darko. Howdie Mickoski talks about both, Donnie Darko and Lost, where I actually got those ideas from. Also I think that the existence cannot really be destroyed. So if the island and all of creation would go down, it would also just have a rebirth, like everything. I guess, all beings are playing a stupid game in the end, because everyone is bored.

  6. I still don’t think going in the water turns you into a smoke monster, I think the protector always had both smoke powers and protector powers. Passing down the powers would normally give you both, but mother split the power between Jacob and MIB. If going in the light makes you a smoke monster then there’d be dozens because of the Egyptians that helped funnel the light after Jacob’s time (during mothers time the water was fully up to the cave, when Desmond goes down the water is receded)
