If Mitch McConnell didn't block the Obama 2016 SCOTUS appointment based on his claim that the president should not nominate a replacement 10 months before an election than Merrick Garland would be on the Supreme Court where his contemplative approach to law would be an asset not a problem. Of course the fact that McConnell turned around and pushed through Trump's nominee 6 weeks before the 2020 election just makes him a blatant hypocrite.
