  1. As for audiobooks, they could do like radio play – AGOT in Polish and most of Witcher audiobooks are done like that and it's great. They could take some of original actors to read their characters, it would be great.

  2. 1:54 Flat out: it is not correct to interpret the BU findings as football causes "brain damage in 99% of professional players". No researcher involved would agree with that statement. The brain bank sample cited has extreme selection bias and is not representative. Not to argue against choosing to not support football based on the real risk of brain injury, just the stated factual basis. Would also add there is plenty of research indicating that rugby likely has significantly higher rates of concussion and injury than gridiron football. Biden was fact checked fairly harshly on claims around the relative safety of rugby. Thanks for the stream, good chat.

  3. PJ, I’m sorry brother but your NFL knowledge is extremely outdated. It isn’t required for players to go to college, the requirement is they have to be 3 years removed from high school. It isn’t common, but it does happen. Also those who go to college and know they have a shot at the NFL leave after 3 years w/o a degree. Even those who do most of the degrees are pretty useless, because college coaches try to stop them from taking challenging/worthy courses.

  4. History masters student here. Since this stream was all history talk, I want to make some contributions.

We all know grrm is inspired by hadrians wall. In our British history course I realized even the map of Westeros is essentially the symmetry of Britain. Also saxons invading Britain (and the brittons) and the isle where they come from is exactly the same as andals invading Westeros and the first men. Children of forest are the Celts who were in Britain even before the Brittons, a group of people whose culture is almost assimilated/forgotten which revolves around nature and spirits.

While Preston and Trey were talking about Sea peoples, I realized it’s where George got the inspiration for the Others. A group of invading people (maybe even destroying civilizations) which appear in different historical records from different cultures and we know almost nothing about who they were. We only know that they come from the sea. Maybe they inspired the squishers. 😅

Anyway, great livestream as always. Thank you guys both❤

  5. As to Britishism within GRRMs work, as a Brit, I do agree with you Preston. The characters do not speak like Americans, reading the dialogue you do get a British impression.

GRRM changes his language pretty sucessfully in general, Shagwell and Rorge use awful language yet even that has a British filter

  6. 13:40 back in the mid-late 1600s, parents would literally castrate their 3rd son so he could maybe make it in Opera. Can he even sing? Doesn't matter, gotta shoot your shot. It's parents gambling with their children, sometimes to get out of poverty. Throughout history, just changes every century what it is.

  7. I have no frame of reference for this but 99% seems absurdly high. I’d be interested to know what is categorized as brain damage in this study and how it compares to other contact sports.

  8. So I hate when people misuse statistics. Understand that football is brutal is so many ways (I don’t let my sons play it.), BUT. . .
The 99% figure comes from the most biased sample size possible. It’s true that 99% of players tested for CTE have come up positive, but you can only test people for CTE after they’ve died. They only run the CTE test on players whose families request it. In short, 99% of NFL players who are suspected for CTE have it.
Does football lead to CTE? Hell yes. Does it lead to a shit-ton of other debilitating injuries? Indeed, yes. Everything from ruined knees to crippling spinal cord injuries. Most of these happen to high-school players who never sniff a dime of it. But you don’t need to go to the misleading 99% figure.

  9. Football players absolutely do not know the risks to their brain they know the risks they’re taking to the rest of their body but I don’t think any of them think at age 25 about themselves at age 72 with Parkinson’s

  10. Christopher Lee died before consumer DNA tests were a thing like that idk why they're going on this long tangent about his relation to Charlenagne in relation to inaccurate DNA testing when his tracing likely comes from a family hostorian looking through confirmed parentage records of their family

  11. So I've learned that some people do care about sound quality, and they often post.

But here's me going on record that I don't care, and as long as I can hear you, it's great. And there are probably a bunch of other people out here who are just glad to see you ☺️

  12. With the Sea Peoples they now think they cane to settle the mid East because of drought and famine in the Mediterranean.
One of them they believe is the Philistine’s of the Bible who appeared in that area around that time and popped up in the Bible around that time
