Lions-Chiefs Reaction: KC offense in disarray without Kelce, Detroit looks playoff-ready | 3 & Out

John Middlekauff reacts to the Detroit Lions 21-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. John discusses why the Chiefs need to pay Chris Jones as they attempt to defend their Super Bowl title and how Patrick Mahomes was unable to overcome a lackluster performance for Kansas City’s wide receiver unit as Travis Kelce sat out due to injury. John also breaks down the Lions dynamic offense, featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and David Montgomery, and why they can be dangerous in the playoffs.

  1. The scariest thing? The lions are only going to get better as the season goes on. Going into Arrowhead an opening night and winning against Mahomes is no accident

  2. Let me get this straight, you believe more in a 18 year college player in Pickett who had average years in the ACC, but not in Mac who had a 41-3 TD/INT ration in the SEC – Who, I might add, had a DC calling plays last year after having a pretty solid rookie year. While, I might add – add, Pitt has Matt Canada calling plays??? Can you see the logic here?

  3. I don’t think it was in disarray. They scored 20 points having the worst performance of their life. Receivers dropped 5 balls, one of which was a pick 6, and one which would have been the winning score. Lions scored 14 offensive points. If the chiefs get more disciplined they will be fine

  4. I’m blaming Toney. Yes, mahomes missed 2 throws, but tony dropped 3 balls, one of which was a pick 6 and one which would have been the winning score. That’s a 10 point swing just from his drops

  5. Veach screwed up big time. He got cocky after the tram won it all last year without reek and he said hold my beer. Well strip our recieving room of even more talent amd be just fine. WRONG

  6. Credit to the lions, they made the plays that needed to be made and are legit contenders. If you came away from that game thinking the chiefs arent going to be a superbowl contender this year at full strength, you are mistaken.

  7. Charger fan here. The chiefs lost tonight because of one player: Kadarius Toney. Can’t remember the last WR having that many HORRIBLE drops in one game. One drop lead to the pick 6, and another would’ve put them in FG range late in the 4th.

But it was great to see the Lions have their moment on the national stage, very well deserved. Can’t say I’m looking forward to our matchup down the road!

  8. The lions played without one of their best players. It's how football works. You have to still field a team when you have players out. And dropping passes that hit you in the hands is normally a mental problem: Thinking past the catch and anticipating the hit. The Lions were a better team that night, and especially in the final 10 minutes. I can't ever remember being able to say that about the lions in a 1 point game.

  9. There was so much wrong with this game. From the uncalled holding and false starts from the dang rt tackle to the terrible drops. I'd love if the lions truly took this game, but if Mahomes had any receivers we'd lose. Say all that to say this. Proud of my Lions

  10. This was more about the chiefs laying a turd more than Detroit playing good. The offense for Detroit layed a turd too! They only scored 14 points for Christ's sakes! And that's against a stinky defense w/o chis Jones! The chiefs were terrible offensively! Congrats to the lions

  11. To people using the Chiefs didn't have 2 of their best players arguement I say this. No one ever gives that excuse to the Lions when they lose with hurt players.

I'd add that it isn't the Lion's responsibility to keep your players happy, so they want to play. That is part of running an organization.

And I'd throw in, if losing your 34 year old all world TE to injury during a walk thru practice, messes your offense up that bad, you should be concerned about your depth.

That having been said, i think the Chiefs will be fine, but stop acting like the Lions were given the game, they beat the team you put out there, inspite of their own adversities, looking at the zebras.

  12. Love it … thank-you Lord Jesus football is back … great insight on Campbell and Jared Goff.
Campbell has turned the Lions culture around 180 degrees and the team identity reflects Campbell: TOUGHNESS !! With Goff Coach Campbell's fingerprints are also there… Campbell defended Goff, stood by Goff, & supported Goff when it was a popular narrative to shit on Goff …because of that you see a super good Jared Goff brimming with confidence … the Lions are the real deal!!

  13. Chiefs fans. By crying Kelce wasn't there, are you admitting that AT HOME you are one player better than the Lions? Even when they don't play well? Jones wasn't going to make much of an impact against our O-Line. One player better, at home, against a Detroit team not on their game? Me too. Me too.
