Our simple but interesting life in the Philippine province of Surigao del Sur on the island of Mindanao. In the morning, the courier brought the package we ordered online. It’s convenient. It turns out that you don’t have to live near a big city with shopping centers. Now almost everything can be bought online with home delivery. Our house doesn’t have running water yet, so we went with my husband to do the laundry at a spring. We have two springs here. From one people draw water and wash laundry, and from the other they boil water and drink it. When Boria was making a fire to scare away mosquitoes, he broke a rotten tree. A centipede and a scorpion crawled out of it. You have to be careful in the jungle.
We bought fresh coral colorful fish from our neighbors. It’s interesting and beautiful. I’ve never seen one like it. There is a sharp spike, maybe it is even poisonous. Boria like to eat fish with the skin on, but here it feels like sandpaper.
In the afternoon, a family from America came to visit us. They were driving from Enchanted River, which is only a few kilometers from us. These are our subscribers and they wanted to meet us.
During the night, a tropical downpour started and uninvited guests came to our house. They were Filipinos who were riding a motorcycle and stopped to take shelter from the rain. We let them wait out the rain under the roof in our veranda gazebo.
The next day I had my first English class.

  2. The paranoia in these comments. WOW! When you can't allow travelers to shelter from the storm you might as well find a different planet to live on. Take some classes and then Darlene can safely own a pew pew.

  3. Beautiful couple, please, your front porch is not a waiting shed and those three men were trespassers
You could have been victims of these men
Anyway only people you are acquainted should be welcomed. Place a good gate with padlock specially in the evening
Be careful and stay safe please

  6. Na alarm ang mga viewers ng sa sobrang concern sa safety ninyong dalawa. Suggestion lang, how about moving the veranda in the back of the house where you could also park the motorcycle. Also lagyan ng door/gate ang veranda even if it gets moved in the back. The door to the front of the house, just lock it permanently so strangers do not knock on the front door to seek shelter in bad weather. Most of all listen to some of the advise to put a concrete wall around the property.

  10. Burning citronella oil keeps mosquitoes away. You can also rub a little citronella oil on yourself. No water in the house! So no bathroom also. Wonderful you still smiling. I would have problem

  11. Darlene’s English is better than most college graduates even though she didn’t go to college. Her grammar only needs some refinement. She needs to read & study grammar books & do exercises to improve her grammar. Good luck!!!!
