My advice for starting is limiting your options to control nation and public campaign with persuasion being the only stat. Then set a largish nation as target e.g. India, China, US, EU and just all out go for it. You need to start with the smaller nations around it.
Then pick a medium nation the AI controls and try to take it over using coup, crackdown etc with the relevant stats added.
Next pick out some cool sounding orgs and pick up as many as you can. By this point you should be able to make arbitrary goals of your own and figure out what you need to achieve them.
Point being don't start by trying to "play the game". Start by taking away all choices and introduce complexity a bit at a time once you feel familiar with the mechanics.
I recently read an interesting post about how complexity is not the same as depth in a strategy game. If you think about it, chess is one of the most famous strategy games ever and it takes like 5 minutes to learn (low complexity) but every small decision dramatically impact the outcome (high depth). Granted I only watched half an hour but It really looks this game has a whole lot of moving parts and clickings with little substance. Hopefully I'm wrong (the UI doesn't help and there is not much feedback to the player actions) because the atmosphere and concept are really good.
Quill18 seriously your super shrill offended voice is up way SUPER HIGH! I can barely hear the game but you are shattering my eardrums. Seriously I'm not trying to tell you what to do but it would be nice if you would dedicate yourself to a quality broadcast. You also look rough like you just fell out of bed… have some pride in your ride man.
Normally a unselective beta-blocker like propranolol should be a treatment option for essential tremor but there might be complicating factors that don't make it viable
Quill playing x-com files would be pretty darn fun. Though it would occupy a stream slot for quite some time:D Well, depending on if he plays 'til he wins or 'til he dies:p
Oooh, I think a friend of mine actually played this as a LARP event on a boardgame convention a few years ago. Sounded like a blast, so I guess I need to have a look at this.
sorry also…no one needs to see your face in your videos. If you want more subscibers and or likes….keep yourself out of your youtube vides. No sure why some of you tubers feel the need. A lot of very successful youtubes do not do this, try it….we all might like it better. imo
hi Quill, As far as I love your work – I am truly flabergasted with lack of the intro. I can skip 'hello' and stuff but I absolutely have no idea what the game is about.
if thats all your neuroligist said they are not good. Beta blockers and anticonvulsants are great for my uncle. Sorry to hear tho, been watching your stuff for years. Hope for the best.
This was such a hilarious mess. Tbf, I'm about 15 hours in … but there was so much chaos. CAR, Kazakhstan, Iceland, burning through influence, focusing on CAR stabilization. We all know the first step to resisting the aliens is resolving civil wars in Africa. Four dimensional chess.
Xenonauts is infinitely better than X-Com. Edit This not because of gameplay, this is because of plot. The way humanity takes on a multi-star empire in Xenonauts impressed me.
I think the interface is too "flat", making it harder to understand. I think it could be designed for easier use. The graphics engine looks quite impressive though.
Unfortunately, after 7 minutes of talking to stream and glossing over game text and not listening to all audio, he gets to the first action and doesn't know what to do. I know most here like the streamer but as someone just looking for a TI let's play, this was a painful waste of time.
OMG THE TIMING. brought this yesturday and got so confused, fingers crossed we can figure this out together

would love to see a playthrough, seems like an awesome game that would need a bit of time to shine
Get onto lions mane mate! That's the answer for your brain!
This game deserves a full playthrough.. I'm two years in, and I haven't been drawn into a game this hard since… Civilisation.
True as an icelander I can vouch that we are op 🤣
It’s Vietnamese… and I went to school with two brothers who said it was New-Yin

I've always pronounced Nguyen as "ng-wen" but I believe everyone has a different way of saying it outside of Vietnam haha 😛
Know you were going to post a play of this so I waited for this to decide if I will buy it or not.
This absolutely counts as grand strategy, imho. In fact, after EU4, this may be my next favorite in the genre.

One alien crash lands on earth.
Your mission: RESIST THE ALIEN INVASION

totally overwhelming at first, but when you get the hang of it, it's good.
I have no idea why but when i look at this game i want to play in Phantom Doctrine hmmm.
This looks like it could be a cool game, but I can't figure out if it actually is, or if it's a needlessly complex game masquerading as good.

This feels like a cross between Xenonauts and Crusader Kings 3… And I didn't realize how much I'd love to have the time to play a game like this. XD
Can confirm Romania is easy to control. All you need is about 7 bucks. Maybe 8 if you want 100% chance of success. Source: I'm from there. 🙂

Gee Quil, I hope you feel better man 🙁🩻🩺
Also this game looks so cool 😎. Like a geopolitics game +XCOM
This game may be cool, but the ultrasound ablation for essential tremor is the coolest shit in the world.
