Late post because YouTube deleted Warhammer 3 category from YouTube gaming… fun! Anyway there's a few things to discuss. I took a while to get this out because I wanted to revisit my notes to talk about the warning signs and so on.
I've left comments on all there socials. And will be voting with my dollar. Not gonna buy dlcs I'd they're this expensive.
Id continue paying this price if they just dont stop making content
They literally test how dumb we are as their customers. They offer well less content for way more money. Most of the Mod creators out there created way better stuff for free (donations)
I dunno 3 unique campaigns seems worth it enough for me
Even if you don’t think that the boycott will work, I’m going to wait and see what happens.
Currency by country is a weird thing to explain, here in NZ the dlc is $40 which would be the same as everywhere else in their currency, but we are not a rich country, $40 for a dlc is actually breaking the bank for us =(
I've bought all DLC since the release of Total Warhammer 1 in prerelease, except this one. And it's not a lack of money on my part, I stand for the principle.
To be fair in regards to Cathay. It's just not Asians that are interested in Cathay. As an American they are my favorite faction because I love their rank and file combat and that(at least to me as a westerner) they're far more interesting than the rather bland, cliche, and overdone garbage that the in game Empire is based off of.
Im disapointed in the high price as well, because there seems to be no New lore of magic what would be the one thing that i wanted the most.
But i have to say, its funny how 25€ in this game make everyone so outraged, when they pay much more for shitty miniatures, that are cheaply made, have to be build and Colorado by themselves and cant be played without much more stuff like a expensive rule book.
How people spent insane amount of money for wothrless magic cards.
For skins in free to play games,
For Grind skipping in Phone scamm games.
Yeah i think its fair to try to get the price down, but i think its already too late
Feels like the old two Legendary Lords and units-worth of content has been spread wafer thin over three factions for double the price. Plus silence about the bugs in the stuff I already paid for. So, no thanks.
Haven’t heard you so upset in while. Take care and we will overcome this as a wholesome community
This is a tough time. The content in the DLC is subjectively really good. At this stage it seems lacking a Hag Lord which is my biggest peeve.
I feel if they lowered the orice to more akin to CoC (since more uniur units and varied LL for different races) it would be praised rather greatly.
I look forward to the day we can hopefully get back to excitement for this game and less sombre anxiety. Come on CA. Please listen!
15.99 that i could handle but nearly as much as chorfs. Pushing it
If we boycotted this DLC, then they would reconsider their future strategies.
Honestly, this one priced me out with how things have been going lately… Almost no small patches to fix the problems with factions in IE that I actually enjoy playing campaigns for, the lack of quantity, even if the quality might balance that… Just kind of seeing some worrisome signs that I ignored not long ago with Blizzard that's making me a bit leery atm.. I'll probably pick this one up, along with the other ones if they're similar in scope, when they go on sale in a year or so.. just gonna take a cooldown from TW if this is the direction we're going for now. Just watch some campaign playthroughs and take some time away.
They Need to explain these endless price increases and I swear to God if the use the words "well the price of everything is going up" I will as a 6 thousand hour plus player I will never spend one more dollar on this game. I can't even imagine what it must be like to try and be a brand new player. I'm not saying the cost of dlc isn't justified but it's disgusting that they will just take on a 100 percent price increase with no detailed conversations about it
6-8 units only to justify the amount of cash we are going to pay 🤣
Yeah, the dlc at best is worth $20, but otherwise it'd be $15 for me. Champions of Chaos was $16, and was mostly reskinned units, with 4 LLs. This has less reskinned units than that, still has 4 legendary characters, but of them 1 is a hero, which is less work than a lord cause a lord requires a faction to go with it. The generic lord and hero should be swapped, Kislev should've got hag lords, while Cathay should've got a melee hero. That being said this is still awkward. As Tzeentch gets 2 LHs in this coming patch. I think Cathay should've gotten one of them. And the bug fixing issue is just pathetic.
I think what should've happened was Kislev gets hag witch heroes and lords (even if they don't have lore of hags, they should have abilities that'd simulate it, while having access to lore of death and lore of beasts), plus the units we saw in the trailer, Cathay gets a melee hero and a LH plus the units we saw for them. And Tzeentch gets either a generic lord or a generic hero plus the free LH. Cathay's caravan mechanic should be tweaked and buffed, harmony factionwide should have some wiggle room for staying in harmony (so +1 yang, and +1 yin would still be fine), as well as maybe have means to encourage going down either side. Tzeentch should get a little more changes or additions over what we saw in the blog post for Tzeentch, not too sure what specifically off the top of my head but it's Tzeentch, most things could work for them. And Kislev, maybe tweaking some of the existing mechanics slightly would be fine for general overall, but I don't play Kislev that much to be honest.
And then there's bugs, what should be happening, for any dev with common sense. Is monthly bug fix patches (or at least every two months, not anywhere from 3 to 8 months), with a hot fix patch about a week after the dlc release to fix the biggest bugs caused by said dlc. They should have at least a couple people going over these bugs. I know that when it comes to development of smaller things like dlcs that it's possible to have too many people working on it. But it's also possible to have too few. And in the case of CA, it's usually the latter. They don't need the main team to stick around to work on dlc and bug fixes beyond making the game plus maybe the first major bugfix patch. The dlc team would take over but would have a couple people more focused on bug fixes, rather than the next dlc itself. Yes the dlc team would need to be a little bit bigger to manage this, but that's what they should do. And also they shouldn't price hike this hard for a lord pack. Going up to $15 was expected for 3 races, I'd give them leeway up to $20, so long as the content is good. But not $25, that's too much. I will be waiting for a sale, if you don't want to wait, that's fine it's your money, and I understand if you're concerned that the game might die if we don't support it enough.
I wouldn't mind the price increase – but the content and quality has to match. Chorfs lured me into a false sense of hope, because it felt like the faction was just bursting with mechanics and units. I kind of hyped myself into thinking that the three races in these packs would each get a serious update on the same level – esp. Kislev, where Ostenkya would provide a great chance to go back and revisit the Devotion/Supporters mechanic and maybe update it into something that made more sense. Maybe give Cathay some new mechanics that were a little more exciting than "point the compass once every X turns". If that were the case, they would have had my money on announcement day. But then as announcements and spoilers came out, and I realized how scarce of content there actually was, then why on earth would I pay this much money for it? Especially with all the bugs that still exist in game – i.e., Nakai can't recruit his signature unit, the 4 dedicated Chaos Warriors can't upgrade their minor demons in the warband mechanic, etc. Sorry CA – I'm waiting until there's a serious price drop.
I told you when I unsubscribed from your channel: stop being positive about the game on your channel just to keep interest in it. The game tanked the moment it was seen that the new siege battles were tower defence bullshit, the huge amount of bugs and glitches and literal blue screen of death people were getting, the moment that they said immortal empires was a beta release…the game is dead. People opened their eyes. This is done and a waste of money. They haven't fixed basic shit. This is it. Sure, they will release a bunch more dlc so as to squeeze the money from the hardcore fans and rich ass whales and that's it. Done. The game was not to be a masterpiece, it was to be a cashcow.
If they finally fix the broken i might buy it, there are so many game breaking bugs, its unplayable.
First DLC I will not buy on day one. I will wait for big discount.
I’m going to get hate for this but I will be buying on day one, I love the game and want as much dlc as possible.
I am by no means rich but £20 is not a lot of money for me so I don’t mind.
I am happy with the outcry though as I know £20 for a lot of people can’t be justified, but I can’t way to play as the changing 🤷♂️
Even though I really like kislev and want to see them updated, I feels like their inclusion of shadow of change was simply to justify the price increase
Even if they added another faction/LL to the mix the price would be pushing it. No generic hero/lord for Tzeentch (I don't know why they went with the two LH), no hero for Cathay, no lord for Kislev, the look of the Tzaangors are absolute piss taking, no lore of hags, I would have preferred something more mental for Tzeentch such as the Bane Tower or the Great Winged Terror. The Kislev side should have had an even more strange and wacky roster – stuff from the Realm of the Ice Queen such as the Frostfiends, Eyeless Ones and Glimmers.
There isnt much of a recession only countries struggleing are ones at war not to name names 😶. And the uk because there economy has always sucked monkey balls. Its just straight coperate greed and stupid people leading these companies trying to maximize profit to make up for the failed ventures with ca its pharoh as no ones buying that garbage
Lore should just be a ground work but not everything you base things on. I want a fun warhammer not a gloryfied interactive book
So for me this was a no brainer right? New DLC for W3 buy immediately, which I did, but a day or two afterwards a friend asked me whether I had seen the dlc and I am like yeah i did and bought it already. He then asked whether I looked at the price, I have to admit I really didn't as I did not really care. I had this desire to have everything regarding the game.
So I looked at it and refunded it, simply because Baldur's Gate 3 and Larian show how it is done correctly (there are other games as well like Elden Ring). You can reach success with niche games (pen & paper) when you actually care, have passion for it and do not only look at the numbers. Honestly I have been playing less & less W3 and my focus shifted to well BG3 and other irl stuff. However I don't want to be part of turning gaming further into a wrong direction. CA can, if they want to, put as much effort into their products like FromSoft/Larian did. There simply is no excuse to hike prices, release broken stuff and only put in minimal effort.
The industry is in dire need of change. For years and decades even, we were told by Triple A studios that games like Baldur's Gate 3 are not possible to make anymore with all their justifications and excuses. Along comes Elden Ring, BG 3 and they talk it down. These studios have been proven wrong and they are afraid that we will judge them by the raised bar of those titles which we absolutely have to.
When companies use psychological "tricks" like fomo on you in order to manipulate yourself, you should think more about whether you want to support being manipulated. And there is no justification for it, like oh well other companies do that too… no following that logic is what lead us to this in the first place because somebody somewhere pushed the boundaries into the negative and others did follow.
I have several hobbies, gaming being one of them, it is odd to me how in other hobbies I have companies produce products which are great and you want it because it is a great product without any manipulation whatsoever. At the end of the day, do you want those companies to continue to manipulate people or do you want them to make a great product which you want ? Getting rid of all these marketing expert suits who think only on how to get that money out of your pocket should increase profit margins as well.
First one i'm not buying, not enough in this to justify the price i'm afraid. Not to mention the game still looks like ea with the awful texture mixing, way too easy no matter who you choose, still lots of broken mechanics, i have to say no this time. I want the game to do well and it become everything we all want but a line has to be drawn with how poor this has become. We should have drawn the line when they stopped free lords, and dropped the amount in the race packs to 3.
I pre-ordered the dlc already, but in my case, its because I almost play total war exclusively, have few free time between family and job, and I spend it in this game. However, I don't like this new prices, hope they will put in sale soon and a lot of people can enjoy the dlc. One of the best things of tww for me its that CA still introducing new factions, lords, units, etc. I hope this new price policy doesn't affect the future of the game.
I'm kinda surprised that you appear to be upset about the price about the DLC's now and not before with the chaos dwarfs ( I didn't see any video about the price of that particular DLC), and as far as having the people that make the decisions for the AAA games ever listened to their player base? For myself the majority of the time I see that whoever that is in charge saying yea we are listening to you and then doing exactly the opposite of what the players are suggesting because of reasons.
No new artillery for Kislev…………………… beyond sad
I bought it because my main is Kislev but im rather dispppointed.
Thank you Nathan for this video and explanation. I completly agree with you. This inflated price is too high. Such kind of DLC should not go more than 15 Euros. Old DLC where more fair when you compare with all new stuffs we had.
The worst thing is as you explained not able to fixe bugs who not allow you to play with DLC faction (you bought for !!!).
I started playing RPG, tabletop games and warhammer battle from the 80's and for me it looks like GW's strategy mostly with the crazy increase of fig prices.
From my side, for futur, I'm expecting more from the modders community than from CA (we already saw it with your video about extended map or Southern realms and son on…).
It should be MAX 20€
I have the money for this DLC, but the expectations, waiting for the DLC for a long time, then seeing the price kind of burned me. So I just unistalled the game, and would play other games for the moment. I might or not come back later. But it's kind of insulting charging so much, I don's support CA relationship to their player base.
Soon CP2077: Phantom Liberty will release. It'll be 30€ and it seems like a massive expansion so far. Star studded cast, lots of story and dialogue, new mechanics and weapons, vehicles and cosmetics, all of that in a game with no microtransactions. Only time will tell, but business wise CDPR has proven fair, even if the initial release was less than stellar.
Why am I talking about Cyberpunk here?
Frankly, at first I was quite happy with the changes in the TWW3 DLC model. 3 factions, higher price point equals bigger DLC, right? And we waited quite a while too.
I like bigger DLC, "Grim and the Gave" and the likes are a bit measly for my taste. Sure, some people might want to buy exactly what they need and tailor their purchases accordingly, but I believe that in a bigger release more can be done. Not just a new lord and some units. Maybe this is a leftover from my childhood, WC3: The frozen Throne, AoE2: The Conquerors, D2: Lord of Destruction… The good old expansions cost half as much as a new game and were great, the added a lot, often doubling playtime.
Price seems decent.
It’s about the price of a decent feed at MacDonald’s for you and a mate. Just cut out your fast food for a week and enjoy the fact they’re still making content for the game
The dlc have, at least, same amount of Legendary lords and heroes and campaings for each lord as the Chaos Dwarfs. The differences are that units are not that roster of 22 that had Chaos Dwarfs, in this case they are 11 (if the wardrum is included), but each lord have different own mechanics than each of the chaos dwarfs. Mirrors of Madness was a FLC, so it doesn't count, same with Aekold Hellbrass and the sexy goth russian vampire
To me the problem is that you can buy a full game for 60 and a tiny segment of it for 25. Its like buying a house for 60k and finding out that the wooden shed next to it costs 25k. Absurd.
In TW WH2 I felt like this kind of DLC was chopped up and given away as free LC along side the paid stuff so everyone got something. Balders Gate proved this sorta charging for more shit is really bs. I don't wanna pay EXTRA for LESS.
Chaos Warriors still have bugged outposts where you can't recruit any more than their basic roster, as if you don't own the DLC.
devs aren't responsible for the price, but the bugs. did someone recognize that the tricksters main ability to transform is a paywall? in the trailer it seems, that you can only transform into lords you own via DLC or are they free?? tricky trickster DLC
