In this video, you will see me play Thrive Heavy Lies the Crown (Early Access Release) with Tutorials Enabled. It was long! Thrive is a Medieval 4x City Builder and Real Time Strategy game roll into one. It has a multiplayer co-op feature. It has some mechanics that are similar to Manor Lords, Anno 1800, and Endzone 2. Like Manor Lords (and Endzone 2), it has a zoom out to the World Region Map and creating a second Town in another region to manage and trade back and forth with. The city builder part feels a lot like Anno 1800 with the grid layout town placements and the 2 worker classes, farmers and laborers for each production building types. It is similar to Farthest Frontier as well, with the need for Food and Water and occasional raiders. There are various factions that you can interact with in the game and a mysterious purple fog threat. The other factions occupy the other domains on the world map. You have three advisors that present different options to choose from when faced with decisions related to the well being of your Kingdom (People’s Need, Wealth, and Defense).

What is different about this game is the Combat and Military Units mechanics in terms of upkeep. You need to have special food rations made for military units and they need to return to the base to eat them or you need to have them stored in a Caravan that you can take with your Army when traveling far on skirmishes. You’ll have to protect the Caravan that carries your food and supplies. Not all resources are available in your starting Domain so you will need to expand into other zones and establish additional towns to get the other resources. Oh and there is a purple snake dragon monster that randomly attacks your main town. Overall, I enjoyed playing demo of the game! It was very interesting. This early access version had a trade route bug making it difficult to progress. Also the zooming in and out was a bit wonky and needs some more work. Hopefully this will get ironed out during the Early Access.
