You don't need an axe upgrade, you can take your chair in your house to the woods and place it behind the log. Then click on the chair to sit on it, and it will get you past the log. Do the same thing on the way out!

You should fish in the red water on floor 100. And the cold water on floor 60? I think. Special fish live there.
