  2. watching this made me re-experience some of the things i felt upon hearing these tracks for the first time in game, especially with the things you pointed out that i've never noticed before. i can't wait for your playthrough of hollow knight – it's my favourite game of all time (i have nearly 300 hours on it) and i never get tired of watching other people play it. thank you for all the content you provide :]!

  3. 7:08 When some asks you how your fridge is, you answer: "it's cool". It's the law.

Super hyped for Hollow Knight 2: Silksong, the first ost was great, but in some songs you can hear that they used mostly digital instruments, and if you listen to the new Silksong music, you can hear the production value.

  5. I'd say that comment during your stream that said a first hollow knight playthrough takes 50 hours is about accurate, assuming you're going in completely blind without a guide or anything, and assuming you get sidetracked and distracted by stuff along the way like most people. It really depends on what you decide to do, but my first playthrough just trying to complete the game how I want and do what I wanted to do before beating it took about 50 hours.

  6. Ooo, I really enjoy these analyses of yours so I would love to see you analyse the Homestuck and Pesterquest soundtracks! Homestuck is a webcomic with flash animations set to music, but it's also technically a game as it's interactive and modelled after early sandbox games, and Pesterquest is a friend-simulation game inspired by the characters of Homestuck. The music in Pesterquest is mostly character themes.

  7. Very cool to watch. Your theories do show your knowledge as a composer, but i think they mostly show just how good Larkin is at what he does. He's giving you all of this information without words, without images, just feelings. They're ideas that even people with only the most basic music knowledge can pick up.
Your theories only really stumble when you relate the tracks to the previous, because the game doesn't really work like that. As a metroidvania, the order you hear the tracks is much more loose than other, more linear, games. Otherwise, your ideas are perfect.
Great vid, really interesting watching. Thanks!

  8. Yeah, we know what its next in gaming journeys
Deltarune and Undertale pacifist and genocide would be cool too
He said Genocide first, but imo maybe Pacifist first would be easier for him and more fun
Hope he gets it first time

  9. Hollow Knight has such a strong OST – it's the kind of music that really stick with you. Larkin's work really did a lot of work towards making the game the absolute perfection I is.

Over the videos and also during this stream we mentioned a great technique to add narrative context to music, but the absolute master class in leitmotif is Kingdom Hearts , and I'm so hoping @Davi gets to it at some point. The OST for the complete Kingdom Hearts series is really vast, but the music is absolutely perfect. We have very exciting, heart-pumping Boss themes, but also super well-fitted background music for Disney worlds… And then the absolute gold standard for Character themes, weaving a complex web of relations by using and referencing each others' leitmotifs

  10. I don't know why, but Dung Defender makes me think of the gummi ship sections from Kingdom Hearts. It really brings me back. Just something about that brass section mixed with the xylophone(?).
