Short one today… I figured it was time to get going on this 1959 Buick LeSabre that I bought a couple of years ago… One of my favourite cars, and I cannot wait to get into this one… Today, a quick overview of the project, and we’ll make a plan to get started on this fabulous 50s fin-tastic machine… Hope you all enjoy; see everyone on Saturday!

  2. Well, the older guy in my profile photo gave me his old '59 sedan (black like your parts car) when we lived in Brookings, so I had something to drive around South Dakota in high school. Wish I knew where the one pic of me with that car went. Anyway, it'l be fun to see you restore something so close to what I drove between Brookings and Rapid many times, as well as to school. Have fun with it!

  3. Hi Scott,I always enjoy your videos, even if they're on cars I'm not really interested in (French-Sorry)! I'm really looking forward to this project. My Grandpa's last car was a 1959 Buick LeSabre 4dr hardtop just like yours except it was black. I remember riding in this car as a little boy. My Grandma worked as camp cook for the local Boy Scout camp and I would go with them when my Grandpa took her out at the beginning of the week. I was about 4 years old at the time, about 1969. some things I remember are 1. being a little scared by that menacing grille, 2. I was fascinated by the horizontal line speedometer gauge, 3. the fact my Grandparents had so many blankets piled on the front seat that when I sat down it felt like my legs were pointing straight at the windshield! Grandpa had a lead foot and if he would have hit anything I would have gone out the windshield feet first! He drove that car until my uncle took the keys from him in 1978, he was 88. Once he couldn't drive anymore he started going downhill. He passed in early 1979. So many memories. Look forward to seeing how she turns out!

  4. My dad had a 59 Caddy with the same roof, I hated to clean the windows. I keep forgetting to tell you guys when Dad had to go to Detroit on the plating problem on the Mark II, he got to see the pre production assembly line in partial operation

  5. Wasn't that the car that was set on a 59 frame from a different model ? Seems like I remember it's shorter or something. Anyway I rode around in my friends 59 for a long time, and then he found an even better one.

  6. I think people often forget that when they were new, four doors were more expensive and more desirable. Only a peasant would crawl awkwardly over a folded front seat to sit in the back of a two door.

  7. I’m glad to see you working on that car. The flat top is super cool. And, as unfortunate as it is about the windshield, at least it wasn’t the rear glass cracked or broken. Im way into it. I’m sure you have a personal hit list of cars to work on, but I would personally like to see you fix either a ‘57, ‘58 Plymouth, or that white early 60’s Plymouth which when you bought it had the right front fender “punched back in time to another year.”. I just hope we both have enough functionality left to see it all happen. I’m slightly younger, but not by much. If you build it, I will watch it. I will then apply what I’ve learned to my own projects. 🙂

  8. It's remarkable, like Uncle Tony says, Buicks have doors that close like they're brand new. I noticed it on the subject car as well as the parts car. I've got a 2001 Regal GSE and everything is still fine in terms of fit and finish.

    Speaking of the doors, this project could be called Queen of the Highway:

    She was a princess
    Queen of the highway
    Sign on the road said
    Take us to Madre

  9. Looking forward to this project! The first car I remember my parents having was a 1959 LeSabre flattop. That would have been in the 1960-1962 time frame. I remember they traded it for a 1962 Buick LeSabre, the first air conditioned car I remember them having.

  10. I love watching this and i while watch the whole restitution.
    The Fury restoration was very interesting to watch and i guess that hove my 2doors Pontiac from 53 was saved years ago in America .
    I guess there are 3 old cars in mine .
    Building 1 car out of 2-3 car like you did to save the Fury is the biggest but easy best way to built and save a old car .
    Now you have the Buick and the parts-car for it .
    And if you have planes to built one 1961 Plymouth out of 2 so do it .

  12. Hi Scott , when I was 10 a man I knew traded his '57 century for a new '60 Invicta , cocoa brown met. I fell in ❤ with that car , first time I felt a/c ! My 1st Buick , bought in '71 was a '65 Riv . Best car I ever had . Hit a deer 4 yrs later 😪 . Will you paint it the original Lido Lavender ? Cheers , Neil

  13. Wow! It’s a lot better than you’d think. I’m sure that some of the viewers will have some (all?) of the required parts. If you’re looking to go for a Plymouth Fury style finish, there will be viewers willing you on. It doesn’t look horrible, and you don’t have to splice it. I’m looking forward to the periodic updates. Maybe have a parts list pinned up somewhere to help with the project ?

  14. That's great! I look forward to the project. I drive a 2005 Buick Lesabre for a daily driver. I'm sure the 2005 is about the same quality as from the 59" was when new. How much could they have changed!

  15. Glad you’re doing the Buick, it’s a great looking car and is close enough to 1960 to keep the class of 60 vibe going. I think you’re getting attached to that era of automobile. Maybe Myles will let you have the 60 Pontiac someday for some help with his projects. You’ll need an Oldsmobile and Cadillac eventually, ha ha! Cheers!
