Right as I finished watching the most recent FTL vid. What lovely timing~
In case you don't know there are 2 separate difficulty setting in this mod. First is the standard difficulty that changes the amount of scrap you get, I think it also make enemies scale faster. The second is after you start the game. In the hangar text event you can change your challenge level. This will change starting resources and various mechanics in the mod like a harder flagship. The challenge levels will tell you what they change when you choose them.
If you want harder special fights and mechanics turn up the challenge level and if you want tougher base enemies and less scrap turn up the standard difficulty.
Giant space spiders are no joke
For that last one you should of attacked the drones which were healing its hp(hull) and green shield
