While gore is no longer a major focus in LS (the game has been remade), there still is a good bit of substance there.
If you want the “gory version”, the dev has released Final Response, which is based on Update 4 of LS with some more sandbox options, improved gore and new weapons. You can get that here:

  1. I used to be interested in the game because the gore was so good and looked like it would have some of the best gore response mechanics ever, but now it's downgraded so much I don't really care about the game anymore :C

  2. This is such a waste of time of a game. Gameplay couldn't be more one dimensional. Walk one direction, fire at enemies off-screen to win. It's really sad someone wasted YEARS of dev time on this.

Does it still include the cringe inducing writer-insert comics at the start? SO BAD

  3. I dont get why developers downgrade their games like this, this was seriously one of the best gore systems in 2D games. What a shame, now its just a boring 2d shooter with nothing special to offer

  4. Hey, can you showcase a game called people playground, it seems like a great game to make a review on it, especially a review by your way, I would like to know what this game is missing and what would they do to improve the gore in it, thanks man, nice content too

  5. I think gore getting toned down is a good thing, because right now it really nails the brutal apocalyptic atmosphere. In older versions yes the gore was more prominent, it also felt sorta comical at times. This truely feels like it's nailing the intended atmosphere.

  6. I think as a developer he could have found a better middle ground for the fans of the old gore system and atmosphere and gameplay in the current game. I loved the old gore in leaden sky because it made the combat feel brutal and impactful for a side scroller. The game overall seems more polished which is nice but I feel like the brutalness and a lot of mechanics of it feel gone. Just wish we could have seen a combo of horror, atmosphere, and elements of the old gore system. The enemies seem very lifeless and one dimensional now with no downed state at the minimum cant see myself buying this game on steam. I understand the dev was annoyed by bringing up the gore but to me it was the most innovative mechanic in the game and topped some 3d games.

  7. I like this version much more than previous version, the dev is really pay attention to other aspect as well in this version

although the gore is not gory as previous version, but still it beyonds my minimum "Gritty Experience" requirements. Extreme Gore is good, but it's useless if you don't pay attention to other aspects, too.

  8. I get that peoples demands are very difficult to implement into the game, and yes that is frustrating +all the people constantly complaining. But fucking hell he really butchered the game with his decision to basically remove the gore entirely. The gore system was the reason so many people found and wanted this game. Its okay to focus on something else but come on. He took away what made this game stand out. I was really looking forward to it and i WAS gonna buy it, but now I'm not interested anymore. Sorry if that sounds arrogant and picky, but I don't care about how good the story or the artstyle is, the gore system was what was advertised the most. Now that its gone he shouldn't be surprised if many people won't give a fuck about it anymore. You cannot promise something, deliver it, then take it away while telling people to fuck off.

  9. Really gory games for its own sake were released on the older consoles like Xbox 360 (Condemned 2, SOF Payback, Splatterhouse, Wolverine) and still on PC. Since the release of Xbox One gory games on consoles are a rarity it seems to me.

  10. The game really made a big push in development, I like everything about it. Unfortunately it's sad that the gore is lowered down, but for a good reason, enemies don't fall writhing in pain, and most monsters went from mutants and zombified soldiers to electric charred monster, electric unkillable polterghast and armored electric charred monster.

  11. There's a really great flash game called "War Heroes: France 1944" and it has great response mechanics like active ragdolls, detailed dismemberment, blood splatter on surfaces for each bullet wound, many death animations, you can blow up someone in half and their intestines hang out too, headshot kills don't activate active ragdolls so you can really know when you shut someone's lights off. There's also death screams too. There are two points of amputation for each limb and although boddies disappear after some seconds the blood stays on the environment almost permanently and it look crazy

  12. The gore was the only interesting thing about this project. Sad to see he’s leaning into all the worst parts of the game and abandoning the literal only reason ANYONE cared about the game before.

  13. Kinda upset he decided to prioritise story. I remember logging on to update 4 and just shooting mofos left and right, now I have to watch 20 minutes of dialogue and then shoot zombies that disintegrate. Oh well, best of luck to the dev, but he's lost my interest
