Lauren Mayberry – Are You Awake (9:30 Club, Washington D.C. 9/4/23)

Lauren Mayberry kicked off her solo project tour at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C.
Having originally thought I wouldn’t be able to make the Brooklyn dates in two weeks due to me being on vacation, I bought tickets to the first tour which fell on the Labor Day holiday. I drove down with my friends Carlo and Caroline and found many familiar faces like Alex, Jens, Gene, Jason, and Jaime also attending the show.

Have only previously heard the track, “Are You Awake?” only a few days prior, it was interesting to hear a bunch of other new tracks live and a Madonna cover. I enjoyed the energy and what I was hearing and it was great to see Lauren brought over the spin move to her new stage show 🙂

I’m definitely looking forward to hearing studio versions of these tracks and the album as a whole when it’s ready. Lauren joked about how, she dove into the Chvrches archive and say that they had played 7 songs on one of the first show, and she was essentially one upping that by playing a total of 9 songs tonight hah. While I didn’t catch much of it, she continued to have super funny stage banter between tracks.
