Large Scale Locomotive Shop Track Plan and Build.

Our 1000th show!! Wow! We’ve been on YouTube for 13 years. We’re back in the locomotive shop inside Garagemahal. As winter is setting in, we’re working inside again.

We also have several interesting projects, including figures. Karyn is building a 1:64-scale model of her grandparents’ home. I’m painting some amazing 3D prints of barrels and freight by Little Mountain Timber, but the bug project is laying out and laying track from Cañon Grandé to the locomotive shops at Chama. This will also close the gap between the yards at Chama and the outside garden part of the railroad. I’m thinking of a Golden Spike ceremony and a party. The railroad will not be finished, but the gap will be closed, and the mainline will be complete. What do you think? Golden Spike?

SO… first up lay the roadbed and transfer the CAD track plan to the railroad. Then locate the structures and if everything fits, set ties and spike rails! Then run a train from the Chama yard and shops to the west end where the west wye will be built.

  1. Hi Dale & Karen….. Chuckle. Chasing trains. I will have to say, I've done that numerous times in the last 40 – 50 years. The first time….. I missed boarding the Skunk Train by 10 minutes in Fort Bragg. Keep in mind, this was in the late '70s….. When we had no cell phones, Google maps, etc. So I just headed east on the road to Willits, thinking I might find a spot to take pictures of the train going by. Well, I know now the railroad goes one way, and the road goes another. Reached Willits a little over an hour later….. Only to learn the train would not be there for another 2 and 1/2 hours. Lesson learned.

  3. Wooow, 1000 shows? Amazing! Very well done.
Talking of chasing trains, I'm currently putting together my video of when I chased a train out of Durango, then later in the day chased a train into Chama 😂. (My 69th video!).

It's always great seeing your model railroad. I started watching you when you were just pulling out some models before starting the build. It's always great to see it's progress.
    Onwards!!! 🚂

  4. This channel has been a delightful part of my Sunday and Tuesday mornings for something like 10 years now. Nothing said Sunday morning like a hot cup of joe and a new video of train related screwing around. Thank you for such perfect entertainment and many more years ahead I hope! 1000 videos and I've probably only seen half of them…lots of screwing around in the archives to get to.

  5. Idk about the full circle turntable; if space is tight, the pit itself can be truncated at the fascia — a 🌖or 🌗instead of🌕
If it pivots on the pivot point, the turntable bridge should be fine swinging over the aisle but that's dependent on its construction and how heavy the locos are.

  6. Cobgrats on the episode number 1000. I find your adventures in large scale very interesting to follow and the idea of having a partly indoor and outsoor lay out on stilts in good because afer all, none of us gets any younger and having the in your face experienece of seeing thos trains. Hopefully your engine servicing area fits and becomes manageble, one of the downsides of large scale as you not always realize how large they are actually. My Bachmann RGS C19 is well and sits on G scale track quite comfortable. Cheers from Sweden!

  7. I started chasing trains back in my youth. I can remember lying to my Mom about going to the school playground, but we went down the road to the train tracks to watch trains
(in North Salt Lake). I started out taking photos of trains using a 110 pocket camera in in high school (Evanston Wyoming) in the mid 70s. a fire in the late 80s took all my early photos. I use to have a wedsite called "Jolly's Utah Depot".

  8. What a tremendous accomplishment for the both of you ! 1,000 shows and starting at a time when there were a lot less channels on Youtube, and keeping with it. It has been very enjoyable and informative and fun watching your shows over the last couple of years for me and I look forward to more! 👍🚂
