LANCER Lore: Karrakin Trade Baronies | Mech Knights and Sci-fi Nobles

Hi hello, and welcome to the Karrakin Trade Baronies. THE industrialists of the galaxy with generations of advancement, sci-fi tech, mechs, and inherited planets. Within the ancient history of the KTB we’ve got a 7000 head start history wise compared to Union, with some noble lines able to trace their lineage all the way back to the initial warlord monopolists from the Melee. We’ve got feudal mech knights marching out across the galaxy in house companies fighting battles on a half built ring world above cracking planets being extracted. It’s rad.

Warhammer wise I’m already a sucker for Imperial Knights. This was a show-in to be one of the things that drew me into the setting initially.

  1. You sold me on the Trade Baronies. They make the sausage Union needs to survive. With the constant reminders that Lancer is supporting be optimistic, I probably am not supposed to like them, but they are honest in their evil, and I can respect that more than a post-scarcity society that is still dealing with modern day problems.

  2. The claims about Throne Karraka's size comes from a fanmade World-Anvil page. I looked through the Field Guide and couldn't find a concrete sqaure-kilometre figure about Throne Karraka. Not saying that Throne Karraka can't get that big, but just an FYI for those who don't have the actual Field Guide. Great work on the vid Zaktract!!!

EDIT: ignore me, the figures are in the core book

  3. Only thing I'd like to add to this is that while Union does rely upon the KTB for a vast amount of their material wealth, it doesn't SOLELY rely upon the KTB. The KTB is incredibly valuable to Union because of the expertise that they offer, as their technique and abilities when it comes to resource extraction currently outstrips Union's own ability, but if the KTB were to suddenly stop sending supplies, Union would struggle for a bit but would still survive as they invest in their own extraction programs. But so long as Union, and especially Thirdcomm, doesn't do this, the KTB still has a lot of power within Union space. So they constantly HAVE to make a bunch of concessions and send off a bunch of resources to Union, even if it may be detrimental to their own interests. And right now, their 'infinite resources' that they've taken from their core systems are starting to show signs of running dry. Hence why they have such an interest in the Dawnline Shore, and why they are seriously thinking about making the House of Promise into a major house.

So in modern terms, the KTB are quite literally the oil barons of our world. They know that they hold the purse strings of all of their competitors, so long as their competitors continue to rely upon oil ('oil' in this case being KTB material wealth and industry), so long as their competitors continue to rely upon oil. Which worked for Seccom and their expansionist ways, but Thirdcomm is really looking at switching to green energy and solar power, which means that the KTB is forced to undercut everything to ensure that Union still has a need for them.

That is to say, the prosperity of Unions core worlds aren't solely reliant upon the suffering of the Ignoble populations of the KTB, because Unions utopia can always find another way. The KTB will just make DAMN SURE that the easiest way is through the KTB, and they will sacrifice their own populations to ensure it.

  4. You do what you need to do to keep the content flowing as you see fit. Would I have watched a 2 hour video? Absolutely! Would I want the sacrifices on you that would require? Absolutely not! Post when you can, as you can because to me, it's all gold!

  5. I want to like these guys, but i just dont like the time scale. i just can't believe a monarchy style system can weather thousands of years with little or no change. If you told me the system is a few hundred to a thousand years old id be like ok what made people be so willing to deal with such a system. You could have had multiple failed government attempts that mirrore union and its ideals for thousands of years eventually forcing people to take a dim view on liberal ideas because each time they pop back up more suffering happens.
