  1. This is it – one of TYBW's biggest moments ever has finally arrived. The question is…how did the anime do? Let me know your thoughts on TYBW Episode 35, Kyoraku vs Lille, and of course, Kyoraku's huge Bankai reveal! Thanks everyone!

  2. The reason why the anime is showing pernida surviving is for us to know the progress of each fights.

Kyoraku's fight with lille takes place after pernida had survived.

And on other note, the "yellow" is because of how the classical Japanese theartircal presentation has a yellow background.

  3. After watching this episode I’ve come to the conclusion that Kyoraku is scarier (not stronger) than Yamamoto. At least with Yama I know what I’m getting. He’s raw power and there are few if any that can flat overpower him. But with Kyoraku’s power, it almost doesn’t matter how strong you are. It’s scary, menacing, trickery.

  4. dont take this the wrong way.
i love bleach and Shunsui has been my fav character for a long time. everything animation wise has been peak to this point. everything looked cool but i kinda wish they elevated the moment. all the bankais have been very cool looking but still dont escape my main complaint with the thousand year blood war. almost every new cool ability means nothing cause the enemy is too ridiculus. i wish they added more fighting overall so we could see a real clash. when they announced the tybw arc will finally be animated with new content i was hopeful fights would be cooler and show off more of all the captains and quincies that would add to the already existing material of the manga which as far as i know was rushed due to kubo not being at his best at the time.
what im trying to say is it looks freaking awesome but i wish they added to the fight. and to the other fights too. it feels to me like its just the manga pages with more movement. ( granted this is most of anime) but with how short everything is i wish it lasted more

i swear i don't mean it in a bad light i was just expecting more when we finally got here. even the unohana fight felt really short. but shunsui being my fav i wanted more. still happy with what we got

  5. My only complaint here is that we didn't get extra Lille backstory before he goes insane, but otherwise, this adaptation slaps. Much better than last week. My only hope is that any hints of Kyouraku x Nanao have been aggressively scrubbed out.

  6. First of all, if Lilie is in a flashback, I wouldnt be shocked to maybe see him in a Gerard anime exclusive scene or in the Friends flash back. Second, I was so happy with the way the his Volt looked. Over all a 9/10 episode

  7. The only downside of the fight is, just like in the Manga, the ridiculous overpowered nature of the Quincy being essentially immortal as long as Yhwach is alive really destroys the reveal of one of the absolute coolest, most anticipated, and powerful Bankai in the entire series by reducing the fight (like every other fight in this arc) down to: "Here is an opponent that would kill everyone but the person he's specifically fighting instantly, and here is a macguffin to defeat this specific antagonist. But it doesn't REALLY defeat him because Yhwach is still alive."

  8. If you look at it from a anime only viewer perspective the editing can make sense. They think mayuri won last week then this week they see something is wrong but they dont know what. This makes viewers want more and will continue to watch to see "wtf jus happened" so cutting it like that is jarring for manga readers but for anime only it makes sense still

  9. The yellow backdrop is reminiscent of Noh theater and Noh is hard for anyone who is not used to reading between the lines in the context of body action and words to portray feelings of a character.

Definitely there’s some references to Japanese literature that hardly some can understand and appreciate the words spoken by Kyoraku in his Bankai. The words mention the serious tragic elements of shame, suffering and despair.

  10. If you think about it Shunsui’s Bankai also represents the FOUR HORSEMEN OF APOCALYPSE

ACT 1 : War ; Wounds inflicted on an enemy will also appear on you. A cool reference that there are no winners in War

    Act 2: Famine/Pestilence : Diseases and affliction

Act 3: Conquest: the act of subjugation

Act 4 : Death ; pretty self explanatory

  11. I really liked the sound of Lile's eye opening, with a whirr and a click. Really sells the idea of it being something that's been sealed away.

Once again, the War Arc's SFX design keeps working its magic.

  12. I think they split fights to keep new viewers more captivated, it makes a lot of sense to split up longer fights in anime a lot of times. Keep the story moving and in the case of certain viewers not liking particular characters or fights it’s keep variety in there. Sometimes we forget that there are some people who haven’t read the manga at all, so they have a whole different viewing experience

  13. It's a dramatic choice. We end with thinking Mayuri won, but something goes wrong. We switch to Shunsui and we thing he won. I guarantee next episode with start with shunsui getting shot. Him and Ohana both being shocked then it switches to Mayuri. We will see that play out then go back to Shunsui and his thing with Nanao. And hopefully new content stitched between. It just doesn't make sense to you because you read the manga in a straight line

  14. I think this episode was handled amazingly. I also think its really neat that both Head Captains have similar fights. Both end up using Bankai against their strong opponents, and both end in a whiteout scene with a single stroke. And it was cool seeing the child Katen while Kyoraku is explaining it.

Edit: I think Lille's remark about the disappearance of a Shinigami's Bankai applies only to the Shinigami itself. While I'll agree that it makes no sense that a stolen Bankai is still able to be used… if we assume that the Quincy Medals are like mini versions of Yuha's Sankt Altar, then you might say that the stolen Bankai don't disappear because it becomes the Quincy's power.

  15. for a non manga reader i want to ask a couple of questions. from my point of view i didnt see the bankai too powerful like yamamotos. maybe its just not too flashy? idk. the first act only applies if you have injuries yourself. does the second act mean that they will for surely die with an incurable disease unless the bankai user doesnt die? or is it certain death. i guesss the final act does seem really strong since the white thread exploded lilie’s head
i couldnt watch this complete video since it has a lot of spoilers for me. im just trying to understand why this bankai is considered so strong

ps: i do think its a beautiful bankai very artistic

  16. Very surreal and unbelievable that we finally get to see Shunsui’s Bankai animated. I enjoyed it very much and while people were disappointed by it. I found it to reveal why Shunsui is the way he is with women. 11/10 episode, there hasn’t been a bad episode yet and there’s 4 more left. Anime of the year and greatest anime comeback ever. Bleach is GOATed

  17. I am convinced that if he gets a 1 v 1, its almost a guaranteed kill and the play is "The lovers suicide" but if he traps say, 10 people in it, its a different play that fits the actors they have. Makes sense that if his shikai has tons of games, his bankai has tons of plays.

  18. Pretty sure Lille means that he won't need to worry about Shunsui's Bankai's affects if he just kills him. Every other time a Bankai has carried on after the wielder has died, it was because it was stolen and had a new owner.

  19. The next episode start like: Kyoraku use final act then say "Ohana I" gets blasted, then cuts back to Mayuri fight. Just like how Jizou got destroyed and cut to Kyoraku fight.

  20. I can't help feeling like the bright golden background for the Bankai is meant to illicit a more sickly, sepia tone, rather than a brilliant golden aura. Also, obviously probably meant to emulate something like light shining through a traditional Japanese sliding door.

Also, a stolen Bankai being used, and a Bankai still in possession of the user are two entirely different things. It's likely the Bankai being used from a medallion is drawing on the wielder of the medallion, rather than it's original Shinigami owner. Hence why Yama was talking about Koko Gonryo Rikyu being so weak, and Yhwach saying that he'd be the only one to be powerful enough to steal Zanka no Tachi.
