Kyle Larson on Horsepower: "We Could Bring 1000hp Next Week" According To HMS | Dale Jr. Download

After the NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix this past weekend, the talk began to turn again to horsepower being a solution for the lack of passing on the race track.

Kyle Larson calls in to weigh in on the matter and drops a HUGE quote from Hendrick Motorsports on what is possible when it comes to horsepower gains and how quickly they could accomplish them.

  1. I was gonna watch this then I heard Denny's voice and stopped it in its tracks, when the cars were making a 1'000 the racing was far better, but, we also had better drivers.

  2. ONLY raise horsepower at short tracks & road courses, not at all tracks, if they raise horsepower at all tracks like Charlotte then they'll ruin the good Charlotte racing we got now & it'll be back to the leader 10 seconds ahead & everybody spaced out after 1 lap! FACTS 💯💯💯💯

  3. Being 78 years old, and watching all forms of motorsport for 70 of those years, IMO the most entertaining series to watch were the ones where the rules at the time allowed much more horsepower than traction! As several people have commented here, that situation really allows the most talented drivers/riders to shine.

  4. They are WAY off track if they think eliminating shifting woiuld be a good thing. You would have way more mediocre drivers crashing out the field then ever. Maybe that's what they want.

Stick with talent. Dale Sr. would be disappointed to have his son hope for such nonsense. Talented drivers can shift, keep the wheels from spinning, and make it through the turns and do it so well that that they do it faster than anyone else. What's next? Air conditioning and self driving cars?

Full disclosure I don't even watch NASCAR anymore. They have been infested with DIE.

  5. My question is. Will reporters, journalist hard press Steve Phelps and other NASCAR suits during press conferences and interviews? Maybe ask the question. Is there actually any new manufactures? If no one is coming in any time soon the follow up should be, why not 750-1000 HP bump? Clearly it's not saving teams money to make a difference. They can say Dodge or Honda are looking at joining, well Honda can do 750+ HP engine and that wouldn't really hurt what they are doing as a company, but also isn't Honda trying to go full on hybrid or electric? Dodge isn't coming in as much as we want to see that.

  6. I find it hard to believe that durability wouldn't be an issue. Any time you get more horsepower out of an engine, something in that engine will have more stress on it and will break down sooner. Valve springs come to mind. I have a very good friend that builds Nascar engines and the quality of the parts the last few years have left him furious sometimes. He continuously has to return parts because of substandard quality and fit. A lot are sourced out of China. He tells me the issue has been getting worse, not better. I think most engine builders are seeing this.

  7. High horsepower WOULD make a difference dale. Anyone who says the cars don’t look slow as hell on tv are lying to you. Take the restrictions off and let the good drivers shine. The race I immediately think of when it comes to high horsepower is 2014 Chicagoland with keselowski, Gordon, and Larson. Go watch that race and then watch a recent 1.5 mile race and tell me what product is more entertaining? A lot of commuter cars are making close to 500 hp nowadays without big motors and whatnot. People want to see something special on track.

  8. Over 1000 hp from dodge demon srt from the factory. NASCAR should match the 1025hp. As they up production hp in cars for the public NASCAR should match it. Put the horsepower on the hoods like the old days

  9. I would like more horsepower, but more than that I would like no stage cautions and an actual points system for the championship. If your driver wins 1 race you know they are in the championship hunt. If you win every race but lose the last one you are not the champion. That’s so stupid.

  10. Duh. They were pushing 1000 when they went to the tapered spacer so add in a decade of development, they'd clear that bar quick. Please do. I want to see driver separation finally and see these mid drivers get weeded out. Teams refuse to bite on it since they don't want to wad up so many cars but since NASCAR is letting it be a demo derby these days, do it.

  11. I have almost 500hp😂 in my electric Mustang to go along with 634 feet pound torque. I always cringed when I’d hear NASCAR want to take out hp! I want race cars to have way more than I drive on the street. Let the drivers drive!

  12. Ok. I Agree With Kyle Larson, But A Thousand Horsepower, Is Overboard, And 1000 Horsepower, Is Only For V-12 Supercars.

So Scrap The Next-Gen Car, Except For The Shape Of The Car, Along With The Rounded Rear Bumper, Back To The Gen-6 Car, Without The Splitter, And Bring Back The Unrestricted 900 High Horsepower Engine Package Again.
