BRAZIL COVID RELIEF: Just as in the USA, black and impoverished people were disproportionately affected by the COVID crisis in Brazil. UNEAFRO is an organization dedicated to helping students from Favelas and marginalized communities with their studies and college prep, but with the schools closed, they have rerouted their efforts to make sure vulnerable families receive food, basic hygiene kits, and cover rent and basic utilities. Because of the currency exchange rate, 20 USD is enough to feed a family of 4 for a month. If you can, consider donating at:

  1. Stonehenge was built in 2500 BC by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers, Anglorum was founded at the end of the first century after about 500 years of various Anglo-Saxon kingdoms fighting for control. Also, the Assyrian Empire and the Egyptian Empire both existed at the time of Stonehenge being built.

  2. “The British museum. 😐” I laughed so loud that everyone at this Starbucks is now staring at me!!! Tell me you’re uneducated about the world you’re writing about, without telling me you don’t know about the world you’re writing about.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  3. I love that the book is clearly attempting like a colonialism/racism/xenophobia metaphor with the fae and then just making the racialized people of this metaphor change their mind about the oppressors by going to the fucking Brittish Museum???? The lack of self-awareness is palpable

  4. There’s no such thing as a good Hades and Persephone retelling—they are all bad. Add Beauty and the Beast too.

I hope fantasy romance girlies find another trope to obsess over because I’m so tired of mediocre storylines.

  5. Omg that comment about fantasy romance and non stop shoveling trash into your mouth, I literally said “sometimes that’s how it’s gotta be.”

We all need breaks to ingest copious amounts of trash.

    Treat yourself.

  6. I agree about Kindle Unlimited for my own reading but it's great for students. As a homeschooler it covers many of the books used in our curriculum and books that my kids ask to read in general. It's the only reason I don't cancel.

  7. Five minutes into the video (which made my day, by the way) and I've already gotten a book recommendation! Very excited to read Open Veins of South America— thanks Lou!! You always have the best recs 🙂

Edit from a bit later: The gap between the creation of Stonehenge and the founding of London is at least 2000 years, and it wasn't the capitol of anything until a while after that. Maybe Mr. Fae-Dick was monitoring British politics from beyond the veil?

  8. My experience with KU has been a lot like jumping in a full dumpster. Most of the time it's trash, occasionally it's hazardous to my health, and every now and then there's something really cool.
