  1. I've enjoyed King of Tokyo, and have been able to play it with my non-gamer friends.. I also really tend to enjoy co-op games. But given a choice of playing this with friends or King of Tokyo, I think I would choose King of Tokyo every single time. King of Tokyo's beauty is in its quick nature and its simplicity. And like with King of New York, I find that the added complexity and length would probably not make it any more fun.

  2. I like King of Tokyo, but love cooperative games. I want to watch a playthrough and maybe homebrew some components to see whether this is worth investing in. Thanks for the video, DT.

  3. The one thing that keeps me from playing King of Tokyo more is player elimination. This solves that problem, but it does suck out some of magic of the original by adding complexity. Five years ago, the release of a coop version would have been a must buy…but now…there are just SO many great coop games!

  4. I wanna try playing KOT with the new dice:

Hearts, lightning, claw: Same as KOT. Or maybe have the lightning work as it does in monster island.
    Star: 1= gain 0 stars, 2 gain 1 star, 3= 2, 4=3, 5= 4 and 6= 5.
Wrench: 3= gain a random ship token, discard it at any time to claim it's rewards. You cannot gain ship tokens in Tokyo.
Foot: Counts as a claw or dodge. Monsters can lock in up to 3 dice showing the foot symbol until the start of their next turn. When a monster receives damage it can spend one of these dice to cancel one point of damage. (Edit) Locked in dice cannot be used as claws (for damage).

That's just from the op of my head, what do you guys think?

  5. played this in Essen since there was a large play area and because of the cool monsters and volcano. Played as a 5 Player party (so maybe it really shines on low playcounts), but found it fiddly and just not enjoyable.

  6. I feel like whoever did the graphical design on this could have made the ships a different shape so that they don't look like what they look like… And you're not going to be able to unsee that now.

  7. I'm trying to decide between this and the LOOP, they seem quite similar and have a similar gimmick as well… If any one of the reviewers has played both and would be kind enough to offer any insight, it would be appreciated.

  8. I feel this will go the same way as King of New York. It offers a more "gamery" game, but nit many people will want that and King of Tokyo will still outsell it and appear in more Top 10s/100s.

Sure it will reach some people, but they will be way outnumbered.

(The same as Kingdomino/Queendonino in fact)

  9. Like many, my family and I are a fan of King of Tokyo
I played the game at Spiel Essen @ the Iello booth. It was a nice experience with a familiar theme, even though the gameplay is completely different.

The rules were a little to fiddly for my personal taste, so ultimately decided not to buy the game.

  10. Ugh, I was very excited to see where KoT would be going next since I love KoT but didn't care for KoNY but as soon as I heard co-op, that nearly killed my excitement and after watching the review, I've very little interest left sadly
