I had to change the difficulty when fighting Gná to the easiest because she was whooping my ass, so I'm super impressed you managed to beat her! Thanks for the great series and for another insightful commentary, Welonz!
Can never get over how sad and poetic the last lines of the games are. A hole – pain and grief is truly a hole; no matter how much you try to relieve it or take away, it only makes things worse
"How are you in there so deep?" "That's what she s…" Made me laugh.
The book at your home in midgar gave you the atreus's friends and foes entry 😊 I thought that was a nice touch
Thank you so much for this let's play
I do think this game has significant story flaws (Atreus is not able to carry the game, some quite safe choices on how to develop 2018's plot points, some lack of focus, and a too short and not spectacular enough climax), but what it tries to do it mostly do well, it has some of the best treatment of familly under a ridiculously large amount of aspects i've seen in a game, and it has no right having such a large and well developped cast.
I haven't played the game, but even I could tell how good you were fighting the Berserker King, with the beautiful parries and using Wrath to compensate for a guard break. Great work, Welonz
15:20 Mimir interrupting Welonz was prefect comedy.
1:18:49 – Santa Monica Studio has stated that this is the ''finale of the Norse saga of GOW" but NOT of Kratos' story.
There will be other games with Kratos as a main character in other mythologies, there's no doubt about that.
[*] Brok
To be fair, if Kratos was my dad I'd be afraid of asking him about the birds & the bees too; he would wither be extremely straightforward about it or get flustered & declare the conversation over
When I fought Gna, I was lucky. I found a bug in which she’s stuck in a “taking damage” animation.
Amazing characters, great story, looks and sounds good. The last third was a bit rushed, menus look a bit clunky and the game as a whole is kinda safe and linear. Still a 9/10 imo.
Thanks for another enjoyable playthrough and looking forward to more next year. Cheers!
Sindri likely blames himself as well because of his choice to not let Brok go the first time leading him to lose the ability to have an afterlife. In our world, with no true knowledge of anything after death we could still believe that the ones we lost are in a better place, perhaps in exchange for their struggle. In this world though, Sindri KNOWS he's doomed his brother for eternity, which is something I don't know how you could begin to unpack. My grandmother's funeral was full of people who had varying opinions on her passing, but they all agreed, at least out loud, that she is doing better now. Sindri doesn't have that, which is a profound difference from our reality, I suppose.
Congratulations on both the kills Welonz, I really struggle to think of any other bosses in other games that give me half the anxiety than the Valkyrie’s 😂 the silence in your kill spoke volumes and I think we all felt it too 🥲 thank you again for yet another wonderful playthrough, it was a joy to experience it with all of you 🙏💙
Thank you Welonz. I really enjoyed this.
Thank you Welonz!
whew thanks for joining me with Ragnarok!! Hope you all have a great New Year very soon, and I'll see you back in 2023 😀
15:28 just say it
We all knew the answer as "a hole" right?
We all saw the pilot episode of "Are you afraid of the dark?"
No, just me cuz I'm old? Ok.
Congratulations, Welonz and thank you very much!
Thank you Welonz, it was a great journey of GOW Ragnarok and I hope you will have a great year of 2023 too. Looking forward for your new LPs.
Thank you for playing this for us! I love this game’s story.
I’m glad Atreus was able to save Charlie. Hopefully someone will keep him alive.
This game was an emotional roller coaster for me to follow along with cause like…I had o p i o n s on how Atreus was treated at times as well as how badly he himself behaved at times. I think the game overall did a good job making a character’s driven Ragnarok.
You were awesome gaming! It was really fun to see your skills and hear your thoughts on everything. I look forward to what you’ll do in 2023! Happy new year, Welonz! 🎉❤
Ughh they won't stop making me cry with Brok's death 🥺 I also think his death is hard for Sindri because he is responsible for Brok not having an afterlife/being reborn in next life (or something like that), because he was missing a part of his soul 🙁
Its been a joy watching you get better at these kinds of games, specifically in this one. It was so obvious in the fight against Gna, not just parrying but dodge rolling as well. Boxing out her health bar made complete sense and I noticed see the measured aggression all the way through to the end.
Woah, what a reverse turn of events from my experience against these last two bosses. For me, the Berserker King took more than an hour, but after fighting him I only fought Gna for less than 5 tries until I beat her.
You know when Welonz goes quiet she's gonna get it done 😁 i felt that WHOO!!
I went back and watched the GOW1 Sigrun fight on the channel yesterday, and I like that the trend of Welonz throwing angry expletives at Valkyries has continued 4 years later
The three berserkers living rent free in Welonz mind until the end lol
Thank you for the playthrough and happy new year! 🎉
Great playthrough! Can I recommend some games for future series? Immortality, Pentiment and Fallen Order!
Wow, I totally missed the meeting with Skjoldr, I even looked up posts on "what to see post game" once I was finished and never saw anyone mention that one =o
What a powerful ending.
It seems like Kratos has glimpsed actual salvation in that one prophecy on the backside, so I think that might be a hint where things go next?
My first time with this funeral, it actually took me a minute to realize that Mimir was answering Brok's riddle. Of course I was crying at the time, so it was easy to miss stuff.
I feel like they could take a slice out of TLOU2's insane plethora of accessibility options and have one of the menus there be the hint system. Keep it at the level it was in this game by default, but you can tune it down or up.
My impression was, that story-required puzzles were a lot quicker on the solution draw than optional ones, which makes sense. As a result of that, later in the game it felt like less ridiculously fast hinting was done. Even so, it clearly was a weird thing and one of the few sore spots with a nearly spotless game from what I could tell.
I'm one of those people that just wants a good story and fun gamplay. GoWR delivers on those frunts. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you check out Final Fantasy 16. Its looking very good.
1:22:07 For what it’s worth I didn’t have that problem, because as soon as the lore pop up appears I hit it, read it, then return to the game, and the conversations continue as normal. Conversations in this game do not get cut off when you go into the menu.
21:50 Pretty much an irl psychology analogy right there. Repress emotions & traits -> they fester and get worse. Process them -> they get better.
Ty Welonz! I like watching lps where the person playing give their opinion and talk about the story and stuff. Thats why its fun. And thats why I enjoy your content. I wish you a happy new year and good times.
33:55 For Asgard, huh? So basically all for nothing now.
Too soon?
35:50 "Asgard blood is on you!"
"Not yet. But very soon."
53:49 A chorlenge.
57:37 "Lah dilah!" – Kratos
1:15:50 Could you imagine Freya missing that shot. (She was a bit off center. A little more and it would have just been 'bloop' and into the water.)
Or maybe the waves insisting to keep the boat at bay. Lots of things that could go wrong with that kind of funeral.
1:22:25 No Welonz. You are the first person to read all the entries and not interrupt the dialogue. That's why it didn't come up before.
Jk, but how ADHD most people seem to play there really is some chance that just didn't come up in testing.
I noticed the correlation between Gna's health running low and your edge suddenly faltering as well. It was a really good idea to cover up her health bar to take that pressure off of yourself so you could focus entirely on giving it your all from start to end with no regard for winning until victory was already yours. (As a FromSoft fan, I am also intimately familiar with greed and all the regret it causes.)
But, yeah, the conclusion of Sindri's story was really just heartbreaking… the way Mimir realizes the answer to Brok's riddle after seeing how hollowed out Sindri has become, having nothing of value left to lose and his revenge upon Odin having given him no satisfaction but just left him with even less to live for… … …if there are any more games in this series, I'm predicting that Kratos will be retired and the focus will be on Atreus instead… and if so, I wonder if Sindri will come back… I hope he will… I hope things can turn out well for him… or at least as well as they possibly could, given the circumstances…
Kinda interesting to think about how the Norns are implied to have known how Sindri's and Odin's roles would interact and play out, what with Mimir suggesting that either Odin never found the Norns, or he really didn't like what they had to tell him… given his obsession with finding out if there really was something waiting for him after death, and the way Sindri apparently destroyed Odin's soul, it seems to me that the Norns might've told Odin that he would cease to exist upon death… and since the Norns' "prophecies" were based upon the premise of people/gods never changing, but just continuing to act the same way they always have, and Odin admitting to Atreus before he put Odin to rest that he cannot be better and will never change… Yeah, my money is on the Norns having known all along that things had a reasonably good chance at turning out the way they did…
Ye I agree the system for the notes, scrolls etc was handled badly. What I did was open and the notes as soon as they popped up even during conversations and it kinda sucked because I would often slightly forget what was said earlier in the conversation after closing the note, and I only ever did this 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 the notes didn't mark which one were unread/new, otherwise I would just wait for the convo or cutscene to play out and read after.
As for the hints system ye while it most likely is a vocal minority it really should just be an option from the get go if you want a hint, a more recent AAA that did this well was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order where if you wanted a hint you could simply get it by pushing down on the dpad. Honestly such a shame cause I thought a few of the environmental puzzles were pretty good too and kinda baffling considering how extensive the accessibility options are.
Can you play syberia the world before next? It's relaxing and easy but with a good story.
This was a pleasure to watch!
There is a wonderful video called the breaking of Sindri which does an amazing job of going over Sindri as a character. The answer to the riddle absolutely wrecked me. I really hope despite all Kratos took Sindri can one day fill the hole, just a little bit.
Oh no!
No more Welonz LP this year.
This was an awesome journey on this channel. King Hrolf vs Welonz was probably the most enjoyable fight here, was almost flawless.
your criticisims on first party sony games are spot on! they are good AAA games but overtly sanitized and safe
