King Charles III signs the Proclamation at St James's Palace

King Charles III signs the Proclamation at St James’s Palace. King Charles automatically became Sovereign on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth aged 96 at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon, but the Accession Council – an ancient body of advisers that dates back as far as the time of the Norman Conquest – has formally announced his role as Head of State today. Broadcast cameras were allowed into the historic event giving the world a first glimpse of an ancient ceremony dating back centuries – and one of the first changes to convention instigated by the new King. At 11am, trumpets then blared from the balcony of St James’s Palace as the Principal Proclamation announcing the King was read out.

  1. I'm not sure how I feel about the monarchy. I don't understand it but I don't think Charles deserves the hate he's getting. Yes he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and yes, he's privileged but I wouldn't want his kind of privilege. Heavy is the head that wears the crown (or something like that!)

  2. Everybody watch it… King Charles III is a Scorpio like me. I know how they can snap at the drop of a hat if things aren't in order. He doesn't have the patience for the nonsense. These people know the deal get it together. He's overwhelmed, overworked, and grieving. Queen Elizabeth II was an Aries, they can hold it together and lose it behind the scenes. A Scorpio doesn't care they'll let you know how they feel and not bat an eyelash.

  3. He was probably annoyed that he had to shuffle things around just to sign the damn document he had been dreaming of for decades. And rightly so, he's the bloody King and deserves a bigger table. The master of ceremony must have been Elizabeth's buddy for 129 years who just couldn't bear the sight of some would-be king other than his "old" friend.
