Lol based on how sharing my thoughts on Twitter went I fully expect a lot of people to not even listen to everything I said and now attack me thinking I hate the show. Great episode except for one part for me!
nice
In the when he gets stabbed he walks for like 15 minutes and still fighting too gets on his horse and then passes out
I totally agree with Roshi. I knew the show would deviate from the game, it would have too because it'd be pointless to try and do a shot for shot recreation of the game. And for most of this season I've enjoyed the differences and changes they made (Bill and Frank's story, the Kansas City Stuff, Tess's death etc.) but this episode left a lot to be desired.
The drama with Joel and Tommy was good, but like Roshi said I was expecting more at the end. The sequence at University of East Colorado was so big and important in the game. It ramps up the ante and excitement as you have to navigate through spore infected areas, fight a bloater and a bunch of clickers. Then you battle a horde of raiders to get out ending with the intense scene of Joel getting injured. Considering a rebar through the gut without immediate surgical help would have killed Joel, I did expect some deviation. But come on, HBO splurge a bit and give us a legit thrilling escape to survive, rather than a scrum with 1 out 4 raiders.
They already copped out on Ellie's runaway to a ranch running into the bandits that Tommy and Joel have to fight to get away. I understand that change, and I understand they don't have infinite budget to do every single action sequence in the game, especially with the effects for the infected costing so much because they are so well done. But they should be able to stuff like the battle at college because it's just human enemies.
All that said, show is still great and I'm enjoying the ride.
Might not have Monster or Red Bull, but would have good old Jolt Cola
I loved they introduced elements of Part 2 in this episode like Maria, Dina and the town of Jackson. The scene with Joel teaching Ellie how to use the sniper rifle was really heartwarming.
All this talk of what Joel and Tommy did in the past really makes me want another Last of Us game as a prequel with Joel
19:45 “it’s like voldemort” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
If I remember correctly didn't Joel get tackled down a floor into rebar or was he just shot?
I think they blow the budget last episode thats why this episode's a bit 'off'.
Yo dont forget that the girl 'with no manners' in the diner is Dina or Ellie's gf/baby mama in the 2nd part of the game. ALSO Shimmer is gonna be theirs!
LUPA DREADS MAD LONG NOW
@YaBoyRoshi,
12:03 TO BE CLEAR, Tommy could have sent a message without saying where he was. He could have said, I'm safe and I'm not coming back. Joel would have another message, sure, but he would at least have known that Tommy got his message and was safe.
12:23 that would be a menstrual cup, much better than tampons–rinse, wash, repeat.
12:30 I'm not sure why the screen says "contractor," but @Lupasan contraceptives are forms of birth control. If you don't want to be a parent any time soon, read up on how to use contraceptives as they'll save you loads of money and stress. I'm disappointed your friends left you hanging here. Everyone should know about contraceptives and how to use them properly. Being a parent is a fulltime gig and is a lifetime job. It can be very stressful, especially if you aren't ready for the job.
15:42 how do you say something like that to a child that was raised in an orphanage? Everyone that survived Outbreak day and those born after it lost as much as Joel or more than he has. It's crazy that he places his loss above everyone else's. He still has a brother. Ellie has no one. No ONE! Joel's a savage.
22:31 If the series handled what happen to Joel like the game did, the man would have dead for sure. He was on the second floor, remember? Their horse was tied up on a tree quite a bit away from the door. How is a mortally wounded person supposed to rush to his escape vehicle while bleeding out? This is before the broken bones and concussion you'd have to give him too. The series did the scene better, I'm going to agree with Lupasan on this one.
As someone who lives in the area that they were filming.. that ain't color grading. It definitely is cold AF there.
I agree that the game was way better for what happens to joel at the end… in the HBO podcast they said, they were taking a more realistic approach to getting hurt and how to deal with getting hurt… like joel's hand being messed up for a few episodes after beating that FEDRA guy to death in ep 2. (Basically, in the show you can't wrap cloth around your wrist to heal gunshot wounds like in the game). So they tried to find a more realistic version of what happens in this episode. That baseball bat would be seriously bad in real life (the show being more realistic)… What happened in the game… a 56yo Joel wouldn't survive that in the show… STILL the game was much more exciting and surprising and dramatic. (I honestly think they should have done the game version despite what they said about realistic wounds and stuff).
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this…but did that girl watching them eat look like Dina from the second game?
The native couple were aware. They were jus pulling their leg. Classic native humor. 😊
On a serious note I hope you looked up what that's for if you get kids one day may have to have the talk.
@YaBoyRoshi it turns out that the reason we’re getting a condensed version on these episodes is due to budget. HBO took a risk with this series so I’m sure they wanted more episodes but HBO doesn’t have data that states it will be good. I’m sure season 2 will be better budgeted and we might get more than 9 episodes.
i agree with roshi for this one, that fight was so fast and non-existent, like joel doesn't need to get stabbed through with the rebar but they could've still had him tackle the dude and fall a little ways onto a branch or something so we could get the scene where ellie has to help take out the raiders and drag joel out lmao
i was expecting Sheera to explain about the diva cup but even Sheera didn’t know what it’s for 😂 it’s a reusable menstrual cup for periods. very useful for swimming, long days out, zombie apocalypse, etc as opposed to tampons and pads which are scarce during such times
I love the look Tommy expresses upon learning hes currently a Communist. His confusion and painful acceptance is only highlighted by the fact that he was a Desert Storm soldier; one that gave oath to American type politics that despised Communist ideals like Russia and such at the time
I'm with Sheera on this, Tommy could have told Joe he was just moving on and was going to be safe and he wouldn't hear from him for a while, Joel would have just let him be. Part of what was driving them on this trip was Joel thinking something was wrong Tommy. Tess would not have gotten bit imo.
But that's what I love about the series, the conversations it can bring and different viewpoints 🙂
I bet the girl who stared at ellie while they were eating is her future GF !! could be foreshadowing.
Exactly roshi! they should’ve done joel stabbing way better because in the game it’s super super exciting and here it was j kinda boring just a normal stab
