Today let’s dive into the twisted story of Killswitch. Allegedly released in 1989, the creepy game could only be played once and no copies of it remain, spurring on a desperate and frenzied search for the lost media. Marked by drama, exhaustion and dead-ends, the search would be fruitless- but still, the tale of Killswitch remains. Today let’s take a deeper look at the story of a haunted, lost game to figure out what’s really going on.

  1. the thing that was a dead giveaway that it was a fake (at least for me) was the gameplay footage, which displays graphics that as far as i know couldn't run on a dos machine of the time, as the pixels are not aligned properly and there are too many shades of grey to be displayed using an EGA graphics card, which only had 4.

  2. Couldn't be copied..in 1989. If that were true I wouldn't have had to mess with all those damn code wheels and manual copy protections from games in that time and we wouldn't have had to hear companies constantly moan about pirates, as for deleting itself that in itself would have been quite a feat as during the time most programs were still running on floppy drives and the game would have to format the disk to do that, which was easy to stop by popping out the disk or just removing the protection tab (or just sliding it). While its a great Creepypasta story its just that, and it isn't even the only one like that as stories of that nature were even around in the 90's.

  3. Killswitch, despite being a niche internet horror story that released 7 years beforehand, kind of feels like it couldve been an inspiration for the early freeware version of OneShot; a puzzle game with a dark, apocalyptic atmosphere that could only be played once (without going into regedit and changing a variable set on your computer by the game) despite having two endings. It's an interesting, although probably entirely coincidental parallel!

  4. Man, that concept of a game where you select a character and play cards to form and direct a narrative where you become your opponent's character is as cool as it is Nomic-flavored. I imagine in practice it would destroy friendships faster than Risk.

  5. Heard about this game in passing when I was younger and never heard about it again. It's sad that the writer never really got her name attached to it properly. This may be just me, but I personally would relinquish my attachment to a story if it ended up becoming an urban legend over time. Would 100% buy a book about it if the author decided to publish an in-depth version. Also these short stories remind me a lot of the Hypnogogic Archive that Wendigoon covered a year or so ago

I'm not big on the arg stuff other than watching your videos about it so i genuinely thought this was real for most of the video up until the card game explanation. you do so much research for each video and it's so well spoken and organized! thank you for your entertaining videos and amazing makeup, hair and outfits that somewhat relate to the topics that you talk about! it's really cool to see someone who's so enthusiastic about their passions!
