We saw the Khlong Toei slums last time, now let’s see the rest of the neighbourhood. It’s raw, real old style Bangkok.The famous Khlong Toei Market, the Khlong Toei Port, the old girly bar area for sailors, local landmarks, crumbling 1960s architecture and of course real character, it’s what much of Bangkok used to be like which is why I explored and documented this as much as I could. It’s not the kind of place you’ll want to walk around at night, not really for the wrong reasons, but you’ll see why. Enjoy the ride!

This Pat classic has plenty to interest everyone. Pat takes us to parts of the area we would never want to visit. He talks about the old "Semen's Mission" – "still a bit of pussy walking around" – "The prices are quite reasonable and so they should be". Watch and listen carefully. These gems are slipped into every orifice with the relaxed professionalism we expect from an real pro.
In Australia the flys annoy us no end, they're in your eyes , your ears , mouth. They're relentless its really traumatising. But in Thailand they're to busy on the open air food ! 🙂

I especially like the old photos and film segments you dig up from who knows where. Got to see the Khlong Toei market, from where our food in the 80s was procured almost daily every morning for six years (lots of flies it seems, but we never got sick). Also the bar area (The Mosquito Bar) was there and talked about, but never had the desire to check it out, though it wasn't too far from where we lived (Sukhumvit, near Tong Lor Road). At least got to look at it and suspect I made the wise choice not to visit. The American PX was also located in the Khlong Toei area in the early 70s. Very interesting, though we can't get over how almost everything is so radically different now. Your quip when the cat jumped through that grate near the Mosquito Bar was priceless!

Really enjoy the content of your videos. I live in Pattaya and am often passing through Bangkok and enjoy discovering different parts of the city that reflect the past.

I recall on my first trip in '87 I was staying in Ngam Duphli, went out for a night out, over did it a bit, overshot the hotel on the way home, found myself wandering around in Klong Toey, I was taken back to the Malaysia by a copper, who told the hotel staff he'd found me wobbling around Klong Toey, it meant nothing to me at the time as the folks I came across were lovely, the hotel staff were mortified, the next morning they made out I'd been risking my life in that overprotective Thai way. Nice to see the Trink mention, I doubt many of today's vloggers would have a clue who he was. Great video again. (The Walking Dude)

I would tell this to anyone who would listen, what you said at 16:33 about the old Paknam railway that run from Hua lumphong to paknam that was closed in 1957.
And guess what, the Hua lumphong station was also demolished. and the station that Thais and foriegner calls Hua lumphong station is actually called bangkok railway station or สถานีรถไฟ กรุงเทพ. but if you say that station name 99.99% of people wouldn't know where it is. because people keep calls it Hua lumphong.
and the hua lumphong station today it became THE Hua lumphong MRT station, the subway station. that where the old and real Hua lumphong railway station was. where it was demolished when the paknam line was close.
