Brother Munro, I am just speculating, but do you think the Caledonia class ships are using stereoscopic rangefinders as a sort of long-range snipers, rather than Coincidence rangefinders which are better at closer ranges?
It could possibly be what is giving them a range found bonus from further away.
My only reason for this conclusion is that I remember watching stealth17 do a Japanese campaign a long while back.
In one episode of the campaign, he designed a sort of long-range sniper battleship with eight twin 14-inch turrets and equipped them with Stereoscopic rangefinders instead of Coincidence rangefinders.
