  1. Two sad facts…

    1. This was the last movie of the legendary Paul Newman before he passed.

    2. If you look up the career of Richard Petty, who was the King in this movie (and IRL was nicknamed "King Richard") the crash that ended his career was almost perfectly recreated in this movie.

  2. My kids loved Planes. I thought Planes 2 was better than Cars 2. It didn't feel like it got the marketing to really succeed though. Would have really liked to see a Planes 3

  3. THE best ever disney movie. The story is great, the characters are great, the animation is amazing, the colors are great, I love this movie. The others in the franchise though? Not so much. 2 felt like a spinoff, 3 felt like a lousy way to close off the franchise imo. But it all comes full circle with the third movie. McQueen probably did what Storm did to McQueen in the third movie, when McQueen himself debuted in the first film.

  5. Holden… my dude… so hard to watch this one. I love CARS and you missing all the Easter eggs, then being so ignorant of cars in general and NASCAR…. it was rough to watch sir.

  6. I’m 57 and just teared up on this again. I have 4 kids and all of them ended up watching this hundreds of times. Hell we had SO MANY cars from this (by the way they’re just slightly larger than matchbox which was a pita). Had the town as well – each building etc. we ended up giving them all away 4 years ago before we sold the house, got an RV and hit the road with 3 of the kids for 2 years.

Even after hundreds of watched I love this movie. Though could be Stockholm syndrome.

  7. I find it is a common occurrence that younger audiences (I’m referring to you guys in comparison to my age, not children) assume that what they have been trained to perceive as “better” must be what everyone was attempting at the time that “better” thing emerged.
In fact, the animation of Ice Age was not trying to match Pixar in the CGI arena but more hand crafted animation but using cgi rather than hand drawing.
The art was very stylised with a lot of exaggerated proportions etc that would have clashed with the realism of the Pixar high quality CG aesthetic.
Very similar to how movies with faster pacing of the modern era are not “better” than those with the slower pacing of the previous and if a movie with slower pacing comes out today it should not be assumed they got the pacing wrong, just that they didn’t do the modern “I have the attention span of a goldfish” thing.

  8. The route 66 scene is actually based on the sad history of the real route 66. It was actually a huge major highway back in the day. It did eventually did get bypassed by the interstate "just to save 10 minutes". Because route 66 ran through a lot of the small towns are frozen in time from like the 50's.

  9. Holden & Jen
Voice of the "King" is Richard Petty aka The King of NASCAR, who 1st won NASCAR's Championships 7 times. Late great Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jimmie Johnson tied with King Richard with 7 Championships. I his career, Richard won 200 races.

  10. I'm not saying this is true in this case, but there comes a point where I have a hard time believing people haven't seen certain movies. So many movie reaction channels and they are all hitting the popular movies, like the music channels will hit the same music at the same time. I'm sure in the next few weeks, a lot of movie channels will be reacting to Cars.
