The English composer William Walton moved seamlessly between different genres. His viola concerto from 1929 is both serious, catchy and entertaining. Sarah McElravy, who is a guest of the KSO for the second time, will have many opportunities during the concert to show off the tonal and technical possibilities of the viola.
Beethoven’s 7th Symphony already became an audience favorite at its premiere in 1812. 198 years later, features of the symphony in the Oscar-winning film The King’s Speech ensured that a newer audience also became aware of the German master’s incomparable genius.
