Jr. Kimbrough on the Boss RC 600 and Novation Tracks – Release Me

Release Me – by Jr. Kimbrough – covered by Big Wilson

If you’ve followed my channel, you might recall a video I did with brother Matt, in a storage shed. Even though it was recorded with one microphone, it’s one of my absolute favorites, mostly due to the fun of jamming with my kid brother, and the creativity we had to employ just to get it shot. I’ve always said that sometimes the limitations can really inspire a performance.

We did it in a semi acoustic fashion, that stuck pretty close to the original Jr. Kimbrough version, and as far as I can find, he never did an “electrified” rendition. Well, to my mind, the tune really lends itself to a slightly more amplified groove. So, this week, I thought I’d give it a shot on the RC 600 and the Novation tracks, and while it doesn’t quite achieve the “oomph!” of the full band version I imagine in my head, it’s definitely in the ball park.

Enjoy y’all, and I’ll be back next week!!

P.S. This ain’t no stacked one take … it’s completely live and unedited (just mixed) … as performed in the moment!
