Jon Ossoff grills Louis DeJoy on mail delivery underperformance in Georgia

The terse exchange came during a Senate hearing on USPS oversight.

Service changes have come this year in metro Atlanta and other locations with the USPS system-wide 10-year modernization drive, “Delivering for America.” A central element of the plan involves centralized regional processing centers, and a new one opened in Palmetto for the metro Atlanta and north Georgia region early this year.

Severe mail delays followed around Atlanta, which have improved as the year has gone along — though some issues remain. 11Alive’s Liza Lucas was outside the facility Thursday morning, where trucks could be seen lined up waiting to deliver items.

  1. I’m ashamed to say Senator Ossoff represents my state of GA. THIS HEARING IS ALL POLITICAL AND SELF SERVES OSSOFF. He doesn’t care about Georgians and we need REAL LEADERSHIP from our Senators not someone chasing mail carriers. He’s been working on this all year … good grief. HE MUST GO!

  2. Hey Ossoff, There is more of Georgia than just north Georgia. Mail stinks everywhere, south part of the state mail comes through Jacksonville. Mail delivery is equivalent to the Democratic leadership, pathetic. All of you need to get off your high horse and really do some work for the American people.

  3. Mail carrier 🖐🏽 get rid of this lying ass bastard he's the worst thing to happen to usps and he's double dipping with his logistics company and the truck driver's are told to ride around so when Ossoff walked the plant he wouldn't find the delayed mail.

  4. This guy seems arrogant and surprised Trump thought he'd be a good fit. He obviously doesn't care, he is just trying to make more money regardless of the results. It amazes me that these clowns think they deserve a high six figure salary and the best perks while doing lousy jobs. Maybe the scotch and daily spa treatments are warping this guys sense of moral and duty to this country.

  5. I'm a retired postmaster and I began to really see this "death" spiral coming prior to COVID. It started with my bills arriving late which impacted my ability to pay them on time. In 2020 I began changing the way I was doing business with the USPS by switching over to having my bills received electronically. I switched to online bill paying in 2022. In 2024 I have only written about 15 checks. Unless very drastic changes are made, there will be no USPS by 2040.

  6. Get ready. This is the kind of terrible, incompetent, malfunctioning performance that jackass Republicans bring to the table. Dejoy is a lying fool who hasn't a damn clue. And I promise you. This is going to be the way it is going to be in all government agencies under the Trump administration. Tragic.

  7. I'm a Carrier in the Northeast US, and I keep my eyes on the postmarks and in May, I received mail from GA that was postmarked 5/7 and just delivered the mail piece on 5/15; Disgusting.

  8. DeJoy needs to go!! Gross wasteful spending, inflated salaries and bonuses for top executives that are useless. Then he cries broke when it’s time to pay a living wage to his craft employees!!! Total failure!!

  9. It gets worse. I deliver to seniors. I used to deliver their medicine to their front door, but recently that has been deemed as fraud or unethical because apparently the little magic scanners/devices we carry give us more credit if we deliver to the front door and less credit if we deliver to the central unit boxes. So management direction under THREAT of disciplinary actions ALLOWED BY DISTRICT MANAGERS is to force me to deliver to the central unit boxes and force the elderly customer to make a trip to that unit. A LOWER quality of customer service is a mandate! This is the USPS directive. Lower quality at any cost including the employee! I could keep going, but I will stop here.

  10. 10 yrs ago when i starded working for this company, mail was really heavy and we were working monday to Saturday from 7am to 11 to 12am. I didnt mind doing the work cause it was good money plus we had 14 vacant routes to split and deliver, we had good workers back then. But know the way the system is really bad, starting with mismanage by the supervisors that dont have any idea how to run place, the hiring was hard to get in this place and know they just hire anyone that dont have any experience how to work and no interviews. They get a 90 day provation to see if they are worth to keep them, and they know that they are not for this job. But the supervisors get bonus for everything, specially for keep them in the job. And the harrasment by the supervisor to the mail carrier gets bad so this carriers get mad about it and of course they will work by the book or they get doctors notes. What its getting all this mail also delay its the parcels specially amazon, and since dejoy gets a benefit for that the mail is his second choice…all they have to do its better management and carriers training and a system like parcel routes so more carriers can focus on delivering mail
