  1. This is easily my favorite episode of the season so far. Alan Tudyk has become one of my favorite actors to portray the Joker. Also Andy Daly as Two-Face is such an underrated gem of a character in this show. I hope they keep using him and don’t kill him off.

  2. Alan Moore is famous for not being a very big fan of… how do I say this… women? He needed The Killing Joke to have stakes, so he brutalized Barbara Gordon and left her paralyzed. This blatantly misogynistic story choice would actually go on to lead to a good thing, since Barbara Gordon became a character called Oracle, who still had her own agency and was one of the only disabled characters in superhero comics to be written in an empowering way. Most Barbara fans (including myself) will argue that Barbara actually became a more interesting character after she lost the use of her legs. Then, in 2011, they brought back Barbara as Batgirl, which angered a lot of fans since DC took one of the only examples of disabled representation in the entire medium and “cured” her. Unfortunately, since Barbara Gordon is the most popular Batgirl, anytime anything with Batgirl in it comes out, it will always be Babs in the costume, and because of that, DC wants Babs to be Batgirl in the comics for brand synergy, so new fans can get into them easier. That’s why I really hope Cassandra Cain, the second Batgirl, starts showing up in more media out side the comics so that we can break away from the idea that Barbara is the only Batgirl and we can restore her pre-2011 self. Barbara Gordon is one of the most inspirational comic characters ever put to page, and I love her as Batgirl as well, I just really wish she’d be Oracle in more stuff, so that disabled people will finally have a character to latch on to, but that’s just me. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
