  1. The comedy interspersing the violence reminds me of Higurashi. I do sometimes find Higurashi’s transitions between fun childhood antics and genuinely dread inducing psychological horror to be jarring, but I ultimately appreciate the opportunities the slice of life aspects give us to bond with and learn about the characters. When properly utilized they can elevate a story rather than just be filler that doesn’t connect with anything. I look forward to seeing that in the writing of this show.

  2. Another "girls with guns" carrying on from about where NOIR left off (and "You're Under Arrest", that Honda is awful familiar, and front and center). And a sort of collision between "Desert Rose" and "Gunslinger Girl" (minus the trademark Angst of the later, premise of one, cast of the other, and no handlers). Looks amazing, but this is a weird mixture "Cute girls, with guns, playing cops and robbers".

  3. I feel like everyone would suspend their disbelief of the rubber bullets a lot more if they simply didn’t have that one scene that showed them piercing through a metal door but not human skin

  4. From IMDB:

(at around 1h 22 mins) The overhead shot of Marion in the bathtub followed by her screaming underwater was an exact replica of a scene in the Japanese animated thriller, Perfect Blue (1997). Director Darren Aronofsky secured the rights to a live-action version of the film to enable including this scene in this movie.

  5. I am interested you went for the “Chisato hurt, Takina rampage” route when I thought a pivotal event would set Chisato off; Loose spoilers ahead as this is theories based on what we have, but I think since Chisatos talent seems to be to kill, and something needs to trigger that to happen. I always saw Mika as the character that was going to be hurt/killed to set her off but it could be Takina. But hey, that’s just a theory.

  6. I absolutely love the occasional use of unfinished shots in this video. I’m an animator and I watch these videos partially for recommendations for really well-animated anime, and getting to see works in progress adds a ton to that experience. If y’all can access it, it’d be incredible to see that kind of unrendered footage in later videos. wonderful review channel, thank you for making videos 🙂

  7. Something I really like, is when Chisato drops her facade. Yes, she's super cutesy and fun, but she's cranking it up to 11.

When she drops it to her real 5, you see this intelligent calculator who's aware of everyone's moves. She is sensitive to wording, and is extremely astute to the situation.

  8. Let it be said that rubber bullets can still kill a person if shot at a close enough and right enough area or cause serious internal bleeding and hemorrhoiding.

  9. it's cute, it's cool and it's YURI. the art beautifull, the ost banger, the main character cheerfullness is over the chart. It was such a fun show. While it not really accurate per se but the show got some details that really cool like chisato's gun stance that goes well toward her dodging skill and takina's that goes with her more marksman skill. It was FUN

  10. You are a godsend among the youtube sea of politics, world news, meaningless drama among people I don’t actually know, and especially the “edgy” anime stuff (memes, V-tubers, etc) that actually have nothing to do with anime.

  11. Such a great show in a season full of great shows! I really hope they don't transform into spaceships or suddenly wake up in tubes towards the end. It's just such a sweet balance of buddy cop, moe, action, thrill and suspense. Put together with care and great attention to detail, with so far great writing and characters. Loving the world building of the show as well, it has a great feel to it, plenty of mystery and room to grow. I really want this to be a solid finish with enough space for a movie or another season.

  12. If Cowboy Bebop was the manly, jaded crime dark comedy with our favorite Bounty Hunters, then Lycoris Recoil is the girly, upbeat take. And both have awesome fighting scenes. With both guns and martial arts.
Geoff's right: if it lands properly, we got a classic, people.
