  3. Fantastic interview with a fantastic gentleman. It would have been very easy and human nature for him to be slightly jealous of John's talents and achievements, especially since he was a musician too, but I sense NONE of that sort of jealousy here. He obviously and genuinely loved and appreciated his brother for the remarkable person he was and the oversized impact he had on others. And his memory for all of those events over the decades – unbelievable.

Thank you for sharing your memories, Billy. Thank you for being a wonderful storyteller. And thank you for your lifetime of sharing your music with others.

  4. Thank you Billy and Otis. This is wonderful. Had the honor of seeing John and Arlo at Kleinhans Music Hall in May of 1986 with my girlfriend, who has now been my wife for 38 years. Right up front; what a show! May God rest John’s sweet and talented soul.

  5. John Prine is the best ! I saw him in the early '80's at The State Theater, New Brunswick, NJ. The lights in the theater went out in the middle of one of his songs. Just as he was ending the song, the lights came back on. After he ended the tune he said, "Oh man..thank goodness..I thought I was going blind."
Thank you so much Billy. It's a JOY to hear you talk about you and your brother. I loved hearing that you guys wore Italian knits in the early '60's…as did I, being a greaser from New Jersey. A greaser that grew up to love John Prine.

  6. Thank you for doing this talk Billy. Your brother's music has been through some really crappy times and really good times with me in my life. I can't really express how much it means to me still ❤️ sending you peace and love. Gigi

  7. Thank you and Billy for this interview. It is like talking to an old friend. John was such a part of the fabric of life for such a long time. John had a way to extend himself on his recordings and convey both emotion and humor like no one else. His shows are lasting in my mind. Many thanks to John for making life a little better for all of us.

  8. I was fortunate enough to see John Prine live around fifteen times. He even played a request I rudely yelled out in Charleston one night, Oldest Baby in the World. He was my absolute favorite. I feel such a connection to his lyrics. This was a real treat. I’ve shared it with several people already. Thanks so much for sharing your stories with us Billy. Thank you too Otis. Much love to you both.

  9. That was the best talk I think I've seen. What an incredible story teller. Very heartfelt. I met Johns Mom at Jazz Fest in New Orleans and I still wonder if I was dreaming this……..I held her hand and remember how amazed she was at how popular John was. He was headlining I think on a Sunday and she couldn't believe how so many people were there and I remembered her and I crying while she watched him from side stage while i was right up on the fence. If I remember right I think she said it was her first time seeing him perform live.

  11. Love this. I started college in 1968. I had been a fan of folk since '64 or '65. In college I met people who knew a lot about music and introduced me to the music of John Prine and Steve Goodman early in their careers. Hearing these stories reminds me of how special they were and what an interesting time it was.

  12. My three daughters grew up singing John's songs. He is my eldest daughter's favorite artist. Spotify alerted her to the fact that she was one of the top five listeners to his songs on that platform. I was riveted to your interview. My daughter is going to love this. Thank you for helping us know and love your brother even more. He was the working man's Bob Dylan. His songs are in our DNA

  13. What a treasure trove Billy is! Many thanks to you both for this incredible gift.

Rob & I were fortunate to see you with John in 2019 – first opening and then with him, Fiona and Kelsey Waldon singing about/in Muhlenberg County!

  14. The world cried when John died. I recall it as if I lost a personal friend.

I believe he was a friend to all of us who knew his music. Because I believe he loved . . . everybody.

Love has no mind, it can’t spell unkind . . .

  17. I'm so glad I ran across this interview! Thank you, Billy, for the storyteller you are! I'm one of a million people who fell in love with John's music. Back in the mid to late 70s he was a constant in our fraternity. I was fortunate enough to meet John a couple of times through Jason Wilbur. It was before and after a concert. John was so gracious and took the time to talk with me and my friend Joel. I was devasted when he passed, and the world isn't the same without him. In a world where it seems as if people have gotten meaner and more disrespectful, we could use another John Prine. Thankfully, Billy, you are still around to share the legacy.
