  1. Good intro. That husky was acting pretty suspicious.

I agree that timelessness is a huge consideration on movies. You're right, this movie is timeless. I've always felt when movies like to make pop culture references or plugs to real events, they sacrifice the potential to be timeless because they set a timeframe of reference.

My only regret with this movie is that I didnt buy the 2018 bluray steelbook or get other memorabilia. Its one of my favorite movies.

  2. Oh nice intro, also I like to see you and your wife review movies together, because I like to see her opinions and The Thing is an awesome movie, also what did you think of the prequel?

  3. Growing up this was a favorite of mine and that fact remains to this day. A timeless classic for the genre. This movie alone made me seek out every Carpenter film I could find. Even some of his lesser films such as ghosts of Mars is enjoyable to me. All hail the master John Carpenter!!!!

  4. The now iconic soundtrack for this masterwork was, after it's initial release, awarded with a RAZZIE for worst music. Let that sink in. That is how completely off-base the critics and Hollywood in general was then.
    Great vid Cody.

  5. One thing you don't mention but really adds an even more 'likable' dimension that is regularly overlooked, is the humor. It's got some really funny lines. All coming from character and dialogue. They're not constant but are subtle and natural adding warmth to a cold situation, as well as audience connection with the characters. Also, the sound effects are incredible. The mix of silence and otherworldy and every day gave an intensity, like the sound of the flame and the scraping sound as the wire hits the blood in the test scene. Up there with one of the best sound effects soundtracks in horror.

  6. Fun facts: in the blood test scene everyone that's human still has a light in their eyes. Whoever is the thing have no light in their eyes, but only in that scene we get that clue.

Also in the last scene when McCready offers Childs the liquor and Childs drinks it McReady smirks because he then knew Childs is the thing because in the beginning they said everyone prepares their own meals and they wouldn't accept any food or drink from anyone.

  7. Pouring the alcohol inside the chess computer because it wins by “cheating” foreshadows the ending. He hands the thing the bottle of alcohol because it won by cheating. They’ll both freeze to death but the monster won’t really die.

  8. Hey, Cody. I agree that this is a pretty difficult film to review. It's easily one of the best Horror films ever made, by anyone, ever. Period. This is a special effects showcase/masterpiece. Nothing even comes close. Be well, my friend. ✌

  9. Simply put, one of the greatest movies of all time, and the king of horror and sci-fi. Carpenter's magnum opus.

Plus the greatest creature's concept and design ever created. Can't beat The Thing.

  11. I was 17 in 1982. My buddy and I went to see this when it came out. The lines at the theater were so long because ET was out. We got to our seats late and had to sit in the front row. The movie had already started. Hmm OK so this guy is walking down a hallway with a husky toward a dog kennel…….
    Freaked our shit!!!
WTF!! Loved the effects in this movie!
We stayed for the beginning of the next showing to see what we had missed in the beginning.
My favorite scary movie to this day!
