Jodie Whittaker reads Peter Capaldi's letter to a 9-year-old Doctor Who fan

In 2017, Peter Capaldi replied to a 9-year-old Doctor Who fan who was sad to see his favourite Time Lord leave the show. The next month, Capaldi was to be replaced by Jodie Whittaker.

None other than Jodie Whittaker herself joined us at the 10th anniversary Letters Live show at London’s Royal Albert Hall to read it.

  1. To all those who claim Jodie was "Let Down" or "Deserved Better" you couldn't be more wrong. Jodie had this to say in the DWM 2023 yearbook.
"We are the names & faces of the show so we really have to step up. And I feel I was given the most amazing adventures & storylines. So basically thank you because I've had the time of my life & loved every second."

  2. I never watched her Doctor, and from what I've seen I'm glad I didn't, however with that said I don't hate Jodie and I really hope her career doesn't get screwed because of the crappy writing and fan backlash from Doctor Who. I've seen her in a few other things and I like her otherwise. I just couldn't get into her Doctor, nor the major changes they made to the established Canon during her run.

  3. I really hope to meet Jodie Whittaker one day. She was a fabulous doctor who gave it back to me after a long time. Not a single episode was average, they were all brilliant, even if I liked some more than others. What an extraordinary era and a wonderful minute and a half here.

  5. I like how peter reassured the fan in letter. and it is true. all the doctors are one doctor. though they may sometimes forget a few things or have a harder time remembering something over the long time they've been regenerating.

  6. Absolutely loved her time on the show, and was gutted for some days when they announced she'd leave. But like Capaldi writes, I love how the show always keeps reinventing itself, and Ncuti is shaping up to be amazing! Fingers crossed =)
