  1. A muso mate lent me this album and Wired back in ‘78 and I’ve been a Jeff Beck fan since then – really liked Blow by Blow but loved Wired … “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” is still my all time favourite Jeff Beck performance!

Blow by Blow was such an incredible reinvention of the Guv’nor’s style, as an instrumentalist – it’s a classic and the one most fans refer to with good reason.

For me, a key difference between those two albums is that Wired seems more cohesive. Blow by Blow is more of a general collection of tunes imho and I wonder if George Martin might have segued some of the tracks to give it more cohesion?

Jeff Beck was a genius who never grew old musically 🎸

  3. Always really good hearing your observations, thoughts and rankings! 🙂 “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers” the stand-out track for me – famously a ‘thank you’ (or apology) to Jeff from Stevie Wonder. The story was Jeff jamming on drums (!) inspired Stevie’s riff on “Superstition” – he was going to give that song to Beck but the record company had other ideas. Interesting to hear Simon’s comment about the title – I’d always thought that too and concluded, from the mood of the piece, it was the end of a relationship. I read later that Stevie had written it for his first wife, who he’d divorced, amicably, in 1972 …
